Wasn’t the type of game where he could be creative or have too much time on the ball. But his effort and attitude was spot on and a great header for the goal. Starting to get excited by Buendia

Yes, he's really found his mojo. It happens that players, regardless of their ability, can take time to settle in to a new club.

Exactly this. Look back through this thread (one person accused him of pretending to be a professional footballer). You just have to be patient sometimes.

Jack who? Emi really looking the part now.

I've just had a look at the two together as interestingly they've had almost exactly the same amount of time on the pitch in the league so far this season:

Grealish

Minutes: 1,242
Goals: 2
Shots: 20
Big chances missed: 6
Assists: 2
Chances created: 36
Dribbles succeeded: 27

Emi

Minutes: 1,234
Goals: 2
Shots: 16
Big chances missed: 1
Assists: 3
Chances created: 30
Dribbles succeeded: 27

So Emi's scored just as many, assisted more, not fluffed as many big chances and has the same number of successful dribbles.  All when he's only really been performing for half of that time on the pitch, cost about  a third what we sold Grealish for and is a year younger.

Based on half a season's worth I know who I think got the better deal.

I’d be interested to see pass completion stats, I think that’s where Buendia needs to improve a lot but I wonder if that’s backed up with the stats.

He is not in the top 20 list of passes completed but that list is mostly full of central defenders. 520 for Emi whereas Ruben Dias at top with 1640.

Pass completion stats:

Grealish 88% / Emi 80%

You have to be careful though with stats in isolation. Man City have loads of possession with tons of easy sideways passes. I'd suggest Emi's generally under more pressure and trying to be more progressive so more passes are likely to go astray.

Is there a pass completion stat for passes in opposition half? It’s the only one that counts when measuring attacking players.

In terms of the money he’s what 1/3 of what Grealish was valued at. He’s more than 1/3 of the player.

I don’t see any point in comparing his stats to Grealish. Jack is playing for a dominant team who have 70-80% of possession, so it will always skew things.

But more to the point he’s being asked to play a very different role and is clearly still settling in to that.  I’m convinced he’ll be superb for City next season so all the gloating (not necessarily on this site but more generally) is a bit premature.

He’s moved on and so have we.  Time to let it go.

When he first arrived, I was concerned he was lightweight, a sort of Carles Gil for the 2020s.

Not worried about that any more. The lad can more than hold his own in a physical battle.

Never stops running, either.

Couldn’t agree more mate, some of the early posts concerning Emi were farcical

He's looking much better now but he still gets bullied off the ball at times and it generally seems to be when he lingers on it for too long.

If he can sort out that (and in part this is something that the whole squad needs to help him with to create opportunities to move the ball quicker) then he'll be top class. Right now he's a top half player but he can be a top 4/6 one and hopefully we can get him there by this time next year.

I'd like to see pass completion stats but only for passes that go forward at least five yards.  All the relentless recycling of the ball that City do creates LOADS of completed passes, but the vast majority don't go anywhere.

Emi takes risks, sometimes gets it wrong, sometimes gives the ball away, but that's OK because his job is to try these things.  Not all of them will come off, but he's clearly getting better, and I think we'll see some great performances in the second half of the season.

The only stat that matters for Buendia this weekend was the one where he put the ball in the net
