A green room at last, it's the least Pat Murphy deserves.

Hasn’t Pat retired?

I haven't heard him slagging the Villa off in a while so assume so.

He has but does a bit every now and again with local teams on 5Live.

Announced his retirement from BBC Radio 5 in Nov 2025.

Wonder if he'll be able to resist slagging us off?

I wish he did pressers still. One o the few broadcast journalists capable of asking searching questions and not the same spoon-fed shite 90% engage in.

Did he have an "exchange" with Nigel Pearson once?
Something about an Ostrich if I recall!

The thing with Pat was that he didn't really have to pussyfoot round the media directors and managers because his job didn't depend on it. He wouldn't be overly fussed about being banned from Old Trafford or wherever because football wasn't his main sport and he could easily spend much of the season touring with the England cricket team.

I remember him allowing Paul Lambert to tie himself up in knots live on 5Live after we had lost a game at home. It was about the time Lambert banned Mat Kendrick from Bodymoor.

I recall Pat doing a very sympathetic interview with Remy Garde, as it became apparent he had been completely stitched up by the club during the January 2016 transfer window.

He’s just a proper journalist who asks difficult questions. Lots of managers hate that.

Yep, his skewering of that prick Pearson was an absolute joy. I found his reporting on Villa reasonably balanced down the years, a touch overly critical at times but he did always talk us up when he felt it was merited.

He was the speaker at a cricket league dinner I attended a couple of years ago and I had a brief chat with him after.  Made it pretty clear on the evening that Wolves are his team and made a few teasing remarks about the Villa.  It was clear speaking to him that he had a real admiration for Graham Taylor.

Thought he was a Chelsea fan?

Villa park redevelopment……which footy team does Pat Murphy support. Brilliant.
