The more premier league clubs that build shiny mega bowls, the more our stadium becomes our USP.

That will become even more pronounced in 20, 30, 40 years when these new stadiums really start to look dated and of their time.

Villa Park is timeless.

Won’t the holte end be the oldest stand by the time the NS is done?  I remember it being built and I’m not *that* ancient.
I think it depends on what work’s done, but if it is just a case of extending the north stand across & back, I say that’s the same stand. If they knock a significant amount of it down to build it, fair enough that’s a new stand, but I (personally) don’t think that’s what’s happening with the north stand.

You can add me to the list of people who never want Villa to leave Villa Park, no matter what*. As others have said it’s becoming increasingly unique in a field where it was already *pretty* unique anyway.

As others have said, 52k is absolutely fine for us for now, and I think we’ll eventually get it up 55k-59k with further redevelopment of e.g the Witton lane stand.

I don’t think we would ever need more than that, as we don’t have a tram stop or the name of the city, so pretty pointless aiming for higher.

I've been weighing up the question of moving from Villa Park for a a few years, but over the last couple of seasons have come to the conclusion that I don't want us to move.  As more teams move to new analogous stadiums, Villa Park becomes increasingly unique and I don't want that to change.  Liverpool have managed it with Anfield and I hope our we can do the same.

Same, having firmly been in the move camp before.

West Ham and occasionally spurs are struggling to fill their stadiums and that’s will london tourists on the door step.  More importantly, our owners are also business men so would want a return on the £1bn needed to move, whereas a new stand at £250m would get us to where we need to be without losing the romance of Villa Park.

If we could knock down the Doug and mirror the Trinity that side the stadium would be the dogs b*llocks

I imagine that would be the next plan if we continue with our progression

That's been my position on here since this topic started being discussed.

If we could do that I genuinely think we'd have the best stadium in the UK. A lot of the other older grounds that have been redeveloped have ended up looking a bit lopsided - St James's, Old Trafford and Anfield spring to mind. On the other hand, a lot of the new builds don't really scream 'football ground' and are soulless.

If we can get the North stand job done and then somehow can  do a stand on the scale of the Trinity on Witton Lane it would be a perfectly balanced football stadium as you could iamgine.

With Regards Witton Lane i guess anything over 18000 will dwarf the other stands to a certain extent unless it is very deep .

..that would be enormous, the Trinity only holds 12,700

Presumably mirroring the Trinity on the opposite side you wouldn't do the corner pavilion, you could run the stand the full length of the pitch, you wouldn't have the press box and you wouldn't have the tunnel, dugouts etc. Surely that would be worth a few thousand seats?

I’m another that has flipped flopped on moving/staying but I am now firmly back in the stay camp.  2/3 years it still felt like the bigger the ground the better….now I’m thinking that 55k will likely be big enough…big enough for football and big enough for gigs etc.  Matchday prices are reaching the top end, hospitality doesn’t need to be much bigger.

The thing that feels different with the modern game is the ability for the younger generation to afford it (same as pubs etc) and also the way that the younger generation consume the game…is the desire to be in the ground as high as it was 20 years ago? I don’t know but it doesn’t feel as though the demand amongst those that can afford is as high.

I certainly don’t think I’d want to building a new ground now.

Witton Lane is the key though….that stand is getting worse in terms of its infrastructure….hot water / toilets etc.

If we can work with the council to find a way forward where we can build a proper stand on that side with functioning concourses and suitable modern facilities then I'm 100% behind us staying where we are. If that's not possible then whatever we do in the rest of the ground and however well we play that stand will be a weight around our ambition.
