Not sure if I understand you correctly but the metal fencing behind the NS is to isolate the construction for the Warehouse development

Can we please close this thread after Thursday? It'll be too disheartening discussing any improvements at VP compared to what's happening across the city.

So Birmingham’s two great stadiums are being re-developed.
Villa Park and Edgbaston*

*just started.

I'm excited for this redevelopment now. I hope they have something planned for the Witton Lane stand, ideally to be completed before small heath's 30,000 seater!

Interesting segment in Balague’s book. Infers the stadium upgrades were a medium term fix, until we are regulars in the top 6, which will then see us look at the athletico madrid model of new stadium. Football performance must come first.

Is that an in-the-know thing, or is Balague making assumptions, do you think?

My hunch is the former, based on what we’ve done and how the plans changed. He seems very plugged in to the senior figures.

On the claret and blue podcast Balague seemed to imply this was just his opinion about what Villa should do.

The Athletico Madrid model would be to moving to the Alexander Stadium though wouldn’t it? Their ground isn’t new, it’s a redeveloped ex athletics stadium.

Indeed but some of our fans think that it would be better to spent billions on a shiny new 60,000 seater at the Alexander stadium rather than spent 100s of millions making our current home 60,000 seater.

There isn't much logic to it beyond 'other clubs have done it' to which the retort should be those clubs didn't have what we have - Goodison and Highbury were impossible to redevelop and White Hart Lane wasn't anything special (and sort of was redeveloped if you think about it, or is at least on the same site)

A lot of our supporters are entranced by the thought of something new and shiny, plus the belief that you 'have' to move to compete. It falls at the first bit of logical thinking behind the first question - where to?

If (and it’s a big if) we become established in the top 6, winning trophies, then the demand will be there. But it’s 10 years away at least. That gives us plenty of time to identify sites, or come with a solution at Villa Park for 60000+ seats.
