It might be a generational thing. Some of my favourite Villa memories are UEFA cup matches in the 90s when I was 20ish years old. Phil King v Inter Milan springs to mind.Consequently, I have a soft spot for the randomness of the Europa compared to the bling and predictability of the Champions League.

Yeah, was going to say that the 1990/91 season home game against Inter was one of my favourite games ever. Seeing Jurgen Klinsmann, Lothar Matthäus, and Andreas Brehme at a point when I was utterly besotted with the West Germany national side was amazing. Even more so because we beat them 2-0

I think that’s my favourite football day.I imagine, one day soon, the conference league will be seen as a burden, but I wouldn’t tell a West Ham fan that. In fact europe is probably a better opportunity for a trophy than the our domestic competitions.

Paul Birch totally outclassed Matthaus that day. But he was an amazing player, and I also really liked that Germany team. What a fab night that was It might be a generational thing.
