There has been no confirmation anywhere of any additional funding for Witton Station. Or anything beyond the city centre to airport link taking in the Bloser Dome. Or, if there has, I haven't seen it.

The planned route for the tram has been in place for over 10 years. There’s some nice opportunistic PR from blues saying it’s for them. But this money has been released from the cancellation of HS2 and was announced last year by Rishi Sunak.

Unless they want to stump up a few million quid to have a spur from the main track to the new ground, then nothing’s changed and what’s been planned for years.

If the WMCA plan is to link the city to the airport, then extending the Digbeth line along the A45 seems to be the obvious way to do it.

If the WMCA plan is to link the city to the airport, then extending the Digbeth line along the A45 seems to be the obvious way to do it.

As mentioned by Paul_e, the wiki mentions the second tram line was always planed to go East via The Wood.

A three-line network was initially planned, and powers were also obtained to build two further routes. Firstly an extension of Line 1 through the city centre to Five Ways, then a second line, Midland Metro Line 2, running to Chelmsley Wood, and then Birmingham Airport.[20]

But the Metro website now has the updates on after last week including the (new) route which is still going south of the Sty and then apparently up Bordesley Green Road and coming down north of the Airport.

Ta. So the line that is just about to be completed, which stops by the old Birds Custard Factory, is that the same line that will be extended to go past any new MegaSty or is it a completely new one? I cant quite marry this up with the one you've just posted.

The same. The streetview of it shows the continuation after the last station, and seems to bend as if going down Addersley St..

How they get it up past the Sty/ San Giro from there isn't clear on the initial plan, only that it goes south of the former and apparently up BG Road to go just North of Heartlands. That section of road does look very small for a full two line tram.

Yep - the mile of track from Corporation Street to Curzon street (which has taken 5 years to build) with then link to digbeth at some point in 2028. Then onto small heath and an indirect route to the airport and Birmingham business park. At the pace the other lines have been built it won't reach bordesly until the mid 2030s and the airport in the early 2040s...

I think it's relevant.  Despite the sceptisism it looks like they will build what some thought we should have built.

How successful they become remains to be seen, but I imagine Man U fans laughed at Man City a few years ago.  Obviously pre PSR, but IF they do develop a multi use stadium, it's exactly the additional sort of income that puts such a huge gap between our PSR issues and the likes of Spurs.

I'm glad we're sticking with VP, but honestly I don't think the North stand project is anywhere near ambitious enough, given it is our only opportunity to build a stand unfettered by land constraints.  In fact, I don't think the Purslow design was ambitious enough either.

I agree, the intent and vision stadium wise is what will allow them to move forward at pace if they realise it, and will have them competing on a different financial footing. The North Stand is a plus, but I agree, not ambitious enough. We need to be 60-65k plus a huge amount of significantly better corporate. The only caveat is that Spurs charge London prices, they won't fill a stadium in Birmingham on London prices.

It was, but now they have added the details from last week to the metro website and the tram is going up to the Wood and then down to the Airport (with the only addition being on to HS2 just over the M5). So it seems the original 90s plans are still being used for most of it at the moment.

Why?

We have the land for one ambitious stand.  We're not utilising it to it's maximum.  Is it that crazy a view to hold that a limited extension is not the best use of the space we have?  A limited extension that will leave us 20-30% behind most the clubs we're hoping to compete against in terms of seats, before even looking at facilities?

But of course anyone questioning the course the club is taking is panicking.  I imagine we're bedwetting too in your mind?
