Back to the Villa Park development - I'd guess the new wedding marquee that has appeared on Trinity ROo will be used for corporate seats in the new North Stand...

I think they are copying the model used by all US sports teams of talking up the 'many' benefits of a new stadium to a local community. Then they tell local government how much of a local sales tax (subsidy) they will need and how little money the owners will put in. If that doesn't work, they threaten to take the team elsewhere.
I'm fairly certain United are not about to move to Vegas, but you can see they are trying to build positive media hype, before saying how much the taxpayer will need to contribute. Meanwhile the Glazers continue to take money out of the club.
Personally I hope we do a larger scale redevelopment and don't get left behind.

It's got to make our owners think about the ambition of what we are doing at Villa Park.

Well thats bad news for the blosers

As if the government is going to give money to one who you choosing? One of the biggest clubs in the world or a hellhole nothing club with a bunch of chavs at sty andrews that play in the lower depths of league one?

I think we will rue the day we didn't just bite the bullet and build a new NS.  Even if we do plan on widening the NS I think the max we will get to is about 46,000 and in facilities that are still more twentieth-century than twenty-first century.

Yup, that's about the nub of it.

To the layman, that sounds an expensive way that still leaves in place the current issues with the NS.

I think this is an economic way of solving the goal post structure issue.  The posts ultimately support the roof so once that is removed the scope to move sideways and possibly back increases.   Construction technology has improved significantly since the North Stand design so a lightweight, even temporary, roof can be added back.

I think it’s a pragmatic solution, although does feel like a holding position rather than the final solution.

I don't get why some people around here think Villa will be left behind.  There is no doubt the City of Birmingham and the West Midlands will need a world class stadium in the medium term, and this runs in parallel to the fact that Villa will need to expand in the medium term too. Just because the Club has changed its plans for the short term does not mean that our owners cannot see the bigger picture. I would hope the Club are taking notes on Everton's current experience, along with taking notes on the arguments Man Utd are currently making about their requirements. I'd like to think we are busy behind the scenes, planning and working on putting forward the case for a significant project of our own, be that a Villa Park expansion or a brand new stadium.

I wouldn't give either of them the steam off my piss. If the government give either of them tax payers money , I'll let my MP know I won't be voting for her next election.

But the existing cramped concourses and complete lack of legroom for anyone over 5ft 5 will still be there for most occupants of the stand.

Turn it all into rail seating.

The new corners and area behind will no doubt have new facilities as part of any redevelopment too.

Just seen the design for Manure's new ground.  Looks like the world's biggest circus tent.
Perfect for them, they've been a circus since Fergie left.

I guess the government will have to dip into the coffers for infrastructure changes to accommodate an extra 30,000 day trippers that will need to be ferried about safely and quickly. Meanwhile we'll still be queuing up on the pavement outside Aston station.

Sounds something Paul Weller could get his teeth into and write a song of indignation. He's not a Surrey Red, is he?

Not necessarily - if this is being done to a budget, then the facilities may well be in the car park of the North Stand. Think about how you access the seats at the NEC arena etc...
