Yeah Manchester is WANK for trains. Mainly because Transpenine aren't too bad, but share the rails with useless shit bags Northern.

TPE are just as shit imv. The only reason they run a half reasonable service these days is they were allowed to reduce their timetable by about half because they were so shit at doing what their “franchise” asked of them.

All major UK cities outside London are shit with their train networks because the demand on national routes and bottlenecks around major stations choke the life out of the local services. This was a major underlying reason why a full HS network is needed, but too many people sulked about that until they managed to pretty much destroy the point of it.

Preach brother!

When I lived up there I used to get the train from Wigan to Manchester everyday. Absolutely hellish experience, with the trains always late and massively overcrowded.

Heading down from Saddleworth near Oldham to London today for the weekend.

Metrolink trams running a 12 minute servicd instead of the normal 6 minutes - no explanation as to why.

Points failure in Manchester city centre resulted in a delay and then a diversion.

Just made it on time for my train from Piccadilly to Euston.

But then our train was 10 mins late leaving and crawled to Stockport because of overhead cable issues - losing another 20 minutes.

Made me wonder if Lee Carsley's beem put in charge of public transport.

Yes almost certainly. The question is whether it's in the next few years or whether it's in 50 years time lol.

I can confirm that TPE are indeed shit. I use Northern and TPE; it's painful.

As an aside, could never understand why a small place like Wigan has 2 train stations.

Another vote for TPE being shit.

You have three towns all next to each other in Wigan, St Helens and Warrington, that have a combined population that would make them the third biggest city in England. You'd expect to be able to jump from one town to the other on a connected railway with relative ease...

The smallest settlement in the UK with more than one station is Tyndrum, in North-West Scotland. Has a population of 167 according to Wikipedia. That was 2 railway companies, unsurprisingly. They meet at the next station down, Crianlarich.

That’s my fact for today.
