Villa Park Redevelopment

I see on the BBC today that Newcastle are considering leaving St James's Park as they look to increase revenue. At least they are involving fans in the process, with the FAB guys etc.

I'm sure they came close back in the 90's, there's a big park behind the one end that they were considering moving to.

Obviously that's ok in other cities but seemingly a big no-no with ours.

Yes they're similar to us in that respect, but they looked at rebuilding completely on Leazes Park behind the away end in the 90's, which would be the equivalent of us rebuilding on Aston Park.

St James Terrace is behind the stand they want to redevelop. A 'business man' has recently purchased just the 4 car park spaces that serve St James Terrace for the tidy sum of £180,000. I wonder why he did that ?

I was saying to my youngest the other week I've not seen the gardens or inside the place in the nigh on 40 years I've lived here.

Their stadium looks like an absolute relic compared to others even in the 70's, it was just three open terraces and a few thousand seats in a main stand built at the turn of the century,
one of the few places undergoing significant development before the Taylor Report.

Yeah bit of a problem that lol. I do think we could maybe acquire a chunk of the park and move the ground sideways. 30 metres would be enough and the council are strapped for cash. Obviously the Trinity road would be another issue but not it's something that could be got round. The current Heckonomics ideas where we don't even sell out for a game as massive as the Bayern one clearly don't work. More seats priced reasonably has to be the way forward if we're to carry on with our current trajectory on the pitch.

I remember going to Blackburn in the cup in 1990 before they redeveloped, blimey that was a relic from a bygone era.

A pile of clubs have bigger grounds now than 30 years ago. Villa Park has had a smaller capacity for the past 30 years than it had in May 1994 when the old Holte still stood.

Once you've seen half a Jacobean house you've seen them all. Eh, architecture fans?

But nothing should encroach on Aston Hall. It's the most magnificent building in the world. Why else did they go easy on it in the Civil Tiff?
