I was at Selhurst Park April 91 with Marc Goldberg, by this time the Vultures were hovering. In the Executive Lounge there were lots of press and Football dignitaries, Malcolm Alison  breezed past sporting a very long trench coat topped with a Stetson as if to say look at me I am out of work. Doctor Jo walked by and lots of people nodded and muttered knowingly.

R.I.P.

Blimey, I'd forgotten about him. Didn't he wipe out his fortune through Palace? And are they now on their third set of supporter-done-well-for-himself owners?
yes this was before he became very rich then met Ron Noades and Terry Venables.

And replied to that Nigerian prince.

it might be my poor memory, but I remember going to Wembley to see the Villa in the Makita Tournament 1990

a quick question as I really cannot remember, but was Dr Jo the manager at that time ?

I remember him more at Celtic in 1998 and he didn't last long there although Rangers had a very strong team at the time.

Was part of the FIFA managerial set up with Houllier after retirement so sad most have passed away within two months of each other as I'd imagine they got on.

Dr Jo was a European style coach. SGT was a prime example of the seventies and eighties British football manager as was Ron Saunders. They ran the place from top to bottom and could probably tell you how much the weekly milk bill was. It was too much of a culture shock when the players lost SGT and had to adapt to Dr Jo. To the point where they just didn't adapt. But at least we have the first leg with Inter to remember him by.
We were basically playing an Italian and German 1990 combined World Cup eleven.

RIP Dr Jo, you gave me that night against Inter and for that I'll always by grateful, the first one that is! (that ball was a fupping mile out in the 2nd leg, we were even getting shafted back then 🙄)

I wonder why he left us. Did he ever say? I remember him on the end of season video saying how the next season would be better, then he left.

We went to that too. There were four of us on the tube with a carriage full of Arsenal. They started getting really chopsy, and somehow got on to the subject of our manager.

“You haven’t even got an English manager you wankers”.

Their manager was George Graham. That well known English manager.
