Another footballing gentleman gone.

Indeed. Even on the Rangers forum there's no negative comments despite him managing Celtic it's "RIP, sad news", "hard man to dislike", 'decent football man" etc. which isn't always the case up there. They also mention him being the first foreign manager with us and ahead of his time.

Sad news always remember the fantastic welcome we gave him at the Southampton game and the Inter game was one of the great nights at VP. He had taken Czechoslovakia to the quarters in the World Cup, before joining us and it appeared to be a good appointment by Doug, but sadly didn't work out.

RIP Dr Jo

He was manager the first season I could go regularly. Sad news.

Me too, my first match was the home game vs Banik Ostrava.

I remember thinking it was a strange appointment at the time. Think I would’ve been 16/17 back then, but it did pave the way for more progressive foreign coaches to come in and tighten things up at top flight clubs. Ultimately didn’t work out for either party, but maybe if he’d had another season, who knows? Didn’t know he started out in Aus managing. Decent fella.

I was at Selhurst Park April 91 with Marc Goldberg, by this time the Vultures were hovering. In the Executive Lounge there were lots of press and Football dignitaries, Malcolm Alison  breezed past sporting a very long trench coat topped with a Stetson as if to say look at me I am out of work. Doctor Jo walked by and lots of people nodded and muttered knowingly.

R.I.P.

Blimey, I'd forgotten about him. Didn't he wipe out his fortune through Palace? And are they now on their third set of supporter-done-well-for-himself owners?

I think he owns Bromley FC these days. I
It's the area where he made his initial fortune in the Recruitment business.
Think his son plays / played for the club.
