Superb. First female qualifier to reach the U S semi’s

And she hasn't even reached the end of her second grand slam and she's already British #1!!!

Meant to watch it today and forgot. Another impressive result. Up for grabs now surely?

All well and good her getting to the Semis, but so far I hav'nt heard any grunts or shrieks whilst smacking every ball back like the top players do. Come on Emma, you need to develop this side of your game or you will never get anywhere.

spoty candidate

Possibly if she wins the US Open but it'll probably go to the Monégasque F1 driver again especially if he wins a record 8th World title.

It should be Raducanu if she wins the US Open or Sarah Storey otherwise. Fuck giving it someone lucky enough to drive the fastest car. Nearly as stupid as when a horse wins a race and everybody praises the person that was sat on them.

If she wins she should be given next year's as well, it would be that extraordinary an achievement. Otherwise...Rashford? I dunno, an Olympian I suppose.

Adam Peaty if an Olympian I reckon? He won two golds can't think of anyone else who did. Athletics is usually a good bet for SPOTY in an Olympic year but we underperformed in that this time.

Can't agree with that. Dean had pretty much the same team as Bruce. Something made it better

One set up and a break  up in the second.  Incredible stuff.

Well that was well worth getting up early for.

What a performance.

The first ever qualifier in either men's or women's tennis to reach a final in the open era. Incredible achievement.

She's playing another 18 year old in the final.

So the combined age of the finalists is younger than me.

Fernandez turned 19 on Monday. Mad to think neither of them had ever progressed beyond the fourth round of a Slam tournament prior to this. I'm captivated by this when I normally couldn't care less about tennis. Better set an alarm, I think!

And the last time the US Open saw two teenagers in the final was 1999, with Serena Williams Vs Martina Hingis.

They both went on to have reasonable careers...
