Cheers DM and LFS for putting me right.

I thought the point of the post was how pally he looked with officials in a generic way. I didn’t for one moment think this picture was from the other night - he looks years younger for a start.

I hate them more than blues, Albion and Coventry combined. Throw in Leeds and it’s close. Scum

He was wearing a mask in the stands (with empty seats all round him) but quite happy to take photos without one with the match officials. With matches being postponed due to covid outbreaks it will be interesting to see what happens when manurinal play l'pool in a few weeks.

Picture was I think from May 2013 and his last game, 5-5 draw v the Stripeys. Just checked and Oliver reffed that day.

Saw a picture of DS from last season when he was watching the match halfway up the Trinity infront of directors box and Brian Little was in the first row (with a mask on). Ian Taylor usually puts out on Instagram the teams coming out before kick off so looks like clubs get special allowance to have a couple of club legends at the game still, Dalglish at Liverpool is another.

I think the arms on him is what made them give it.

It's amazing then that more penalties are not awarded for "arms" on players at corners or long throw-ins (into the box), which happens in every single pl game, with players often going down because of the contact. It seems justification of that penalty is at scraping the barrel stage.

You compared that to when Chelsea went up there two months back and Maguire rugby tackled a Chelsea player in the box as a cross was swung in. VAR didn't even do a proper check on it!

There’s got to be money changing hands. It’s so ingrained.

Difficult to come up with another explanation when it happens so often.

Our record is horrific against them, which makes the need for at least a two goal lead against the f**kers so necessary because in every match against them, every time, without fail, as sure as night follows day they'll be awarded a penalty as soon as they come under pressure. With the ridiculous amount of times Villa being on the wrong end of VAR decisions by the very same refs, its not too much to ask for an impartial referee when we play them. Just once.

I'd forgotten that one against Chelsea. It's scandalous that VAR looked at that and decided no penalty and that was against moneybags Chelsea so what chance has plucky little Aston Villa got of ever getting fairness from these crooks?

There’s got to be money changing hands. It’s so ingrained.

I wouldn't go that far, but Ferguson certainly built a culture of pressure on referees during his time there, which has continued somewhat with their ex-players being so prevalent on the broadcasting channels.  It means decisions that don't go their way are constantly picked over, whereas decisions that do (like the other night) are just swept under the carpet.

It is more subtle now than when Ferguson blatantly used to intimidate officials and the FA, but it's still there.

But why always us? As I've mentioned, over 5 seasons Bournemouth beat them twice. Huddersfield, fucking Huddersfield, managed to beat them in their two season visit.

Season in, season out. That same old voodoo follows us about.

We’ve had two goal leads against them on so many occasions it’s not even funny

Cause Bournemouth and Huddersfield and the likes goes there as underdogs, no expectaions /"nothing to loose mentality" and park the bus as you say whereas Aston Villa goes there as Aston Villa even expecting to get something as Aston Villa - expectaions bound to a long and proud history?

True, but for a good number of years the players often looked like they never really believed they could beat them and looked beaten before the game kicked off.  Not just them either, our record against the so called 'big teams' was pretty horrendous, particularly at home.

Fk em - hopefully Liverpool batter them out of sight next up. We’ve got Spurs next I think. A point against them will be well earned.
