Cheers DM and LFS for putting me right.
He was wearing a mask in the stands (with empty seats all round him) but quite happy to take photos without one with the match officials. With matches being postponed due to covid outbreaks it will be interesting to see what happens when manurinal play l'pool in a few weeks.

It seems justification of that penalty is at scraping the barrel stage.
I think the arms on him is what made them give it.
There’s got to be money changing hands. It’s so ingrained.

VAR didn't even do a proper check on it!https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11661/12113362/man-utd-0-0-chelsea-should-visitors-have-been-awarded-a-penalty

It’s so ingrained.I wouldn't go that far, but Ferguson certainly built a culture of pressure on referees during his time there, which has continued somewhat with their ex-players being so prevalent on the broadcasting channels. It means decisions that don't go their way are constantly picked over, whereas decisions that do (like the other night) are just swept under the carpet. It is more subtle now than when Ferguson blatantly used to intimidate officials and the FA, but it's still there.
Our record is horrific against them, which makes the need for at least a two goal lead against the f**kers so necessary because in every match against them, every time, without fail, as sure as night follows day they'll be awarded a penalty as soon as they come under pressure. With the ridiculous amount of times Villa being on the wrong end of VAR decisions by the very same refs, its not too much to ask for an impartial referee when we play them. Just once.

As I've mentioned, over 5 seasons Bournemouth beat them twice. Huddersfield, fucking Huddersfield, managed to beat them in their two season visit. Season in, season out. That same old voodoo follows us about.
