Thanks, loved watching that again! A lot of similarities to this season the way we went from relegation strugglers to title contenders. One of the few fun days at Chelsea which was a horrible place to go- antiquated open end, miles from the pitch and the constant threat of violence! Tony Daley made a habit of scoring great goals in front of the away fans in that period and that was the one thing that I could remember from that game apart from it being freezing.

Same result today would do very nicely!!

First time I went to Stamford Bridge (aged 17) and with a massive new year hangover. Beating Chelsea (newly promoted) then was no big deal compared to Man Utd & Arsenal in the previous 2 games.

Brilliant day, five of us in an MG Metro turbo, all stinking from the night before. Seem to recall it being bitter cold, but that may have been my resistance being low!

Des it was a bitterly cold day. It was one of those horrible cold bleak winter days, warmed by a great performance by Villa.

That was a great day out. Hard to imagine now what an absolute tip Stamford Bridge used to be

Sir Graham's team were absolutely unplayable that year. Didn't matter who we were playing - we're gonna win. And we did. It was the last time I felt supremely confident going into matches. Sure there have been better Villa sides since, but Daley, Platt, McGrath, Ormondroyd, Cowans etc were an absolute machine.

Same, except I was 15.  Actually, what was my Mother doing allowing me to go with a mate?  :-)

Glad you mentioned the two previous games - ManUre game was glorious, but they were shit.  The Arsenal game was tough and we squeaked out the win against the current league champions.  Has there been a better festive period return than this?   I think probably not.

At the end of that Arsenal game which was live on ITV I recall we were all singing ‘Hand it over Arsenal.’ Don’t think I’ve ever been that excited as a Villa fan with the possible exception of BFR.

'Fergie On The Dole' emanating from the away end on Boxing Day was something which apparently never happened.

That season is one of my favourites possibly on a par with 2018/19 because there seemed to be a similar special connection between club and fans.

I was up in the North Upper that day and recall chants of "We want Fergie out!" from the Manures beneath me. This episode appears to have been deleted from history.

Imagine a Manager being given four years without winning anything these days especially at that cesspit.  One of the finest (unfortunately) decisions of all time.  Or luck whichever way you want to view it.

I remember singing that over the park the day after coming back from the win at Spurs, it was in full voice that night.

I was there. What I remember most was Tony Daley's goal and the relief of getting back to the car in one piece and without having to go via A&E. It was somewhat "exciting" ( by exciting, I mean the threat of serious wounding or worse was ever present) on Fulham Palace Road.
