Penalty taker
« on: December 01, 2020, 10:51:21 AM »
Who should be our regular penalty taker going forward?  Most people like the forwards to do it, but apparently young Ollie's record from the spot is a bit shocking.  I'd go with somebody who can combine power and precision, so either Jack or Douglas Luiz personally.

In last night’s case it should’ve been Conor.  But I think he had just been subbed.

Jack. He's captain, and has sky-high confidence at the moment.

I said the same last night before Ollie took his kick. Ollie took a big breath in and looked nervous. My lad said he would miss

I know that Jack missed one at Sheff U last season but if he can flick the ball up over his head with this heel into his stride against Belgium then he can take penalties in the Premier League.

Ollie Watkins has missed way too many. Give Jack the job.

I would give the penalty taking to either Grealish or Luis . The one player who should not take any more is Watkins  He has now taken 6 in all for Brentford and Villa and missed 4 of them

I like seeing strikers take on the responsibility and I wouldn't take it off Watkins after one miss. I think trying to put it in the top corner was trying to be overly clever. Hopefully he'll learn from it and improve.

Having the confidence to take them is the biggest factor. For Watkins his is bound to have taken hit but self doubt appears to be an alien concept for Jack so let him take them.

Doesn't matter. They'll still miss.

Watkins has missed four of the six penalties he's taken in the league.  You need somebody who knows they're going to smash them in 95% of the time.

Who was the last really confident penalty taker we had who was actually our player (not on loan)? James Milner?
