I would choose Martinez. Be a laugh.

if you're going down that route Trez might be better at the moment.

If they’re on the pitch, Barkley or Traore.

Doesn't matter. They'll still miss.
What do you put that down to?

Precedent and pessimism.

Penalties were never a problem in the 90s and early 00s- Staunton, Yorke, Barry come to mind.

Would put Jack back on them. I know he did a similar miss to Ollie away at Sheffield united but with the form he's in I'd back him to score most times.

Beyond that I think Luiz would be pretty good at them.

Not sure why our players are trying to be way too clever and trying to hit the top corner with them from the miss last night and Jack last season.

If this season has shown anything if you get it on target and it's saved there's a good chance it will be retaken. Looked like Fabianski was off his line when the ball was struck so all Ollie had to do was get it on target and at worst we'd have got another chance to score if he'd missed.

I remember a season where we missed a fair few, iirc Merson, Hendrie and Dublin were among those missing them.

Anyone else see Benrahma in Ollies ear just before the pen and then signalled to Keeper where he would put it - maybe last minute he changed his mind and then missed

Even then, I remember Barry doing one of the worst I've seen away at Reading in the early O'Neill days.

Memory probably makes things worse but it seemed to be heading off towards the corner flag.

And early 2000s - Angel at Fulham? Eesh.

Was a bit dodgy around the period Angel was taking them. He'd score a couple but then missed two v Fulham or that one at home to Spurs he skied miles over the bar.

Was great when Barry was taking them right up to Young leaving. Over about 6 seasons we must've got around 40 penalties and can only remember us missing about 5-6 in that time. Barry missed about one a season from the 7-8 he'd get and Milner was pretty good at them aswell. Young missed a few more but still would score 4-5.

Benteke and Tammy scored majority of ones aswell in more recent times. Problem is Watkins wasn't much good at them at Brentford apparently so not having that striker who's sure to score most of them means we have to look at one of the midfielders I think.

98/99? Alan Thompson was supposed to be a specialist.

Scored a few at Bolton but he missed on his home debut v Boro which set the tone for his career here (also scored a good free kick in second half).

Hendrie scored a good one a few weeks later v Newcastle but for some reason he rarely took them for us. Next game actually was Merse's home debut v Wimbledon. We got one and Thompson again for some reason took it and hit it wide again. Then we got another a few minutes later and Merson missed but scored the rebound.

Get the feeling it's another unwanted top flight record we have of being one of the few teams to miss two penalties in more than one game!

I didn't fancy Ollie when he was placing the ball but he hit it quite well, not well enough but quite well.

I'd give the next one to anyone who gave a cast iron guarantee, written in blood if necessary, not to do one of those ones where you jump up in the air before kicking it. Those look really daft.
