Some interesting comments...
"I don't really enjoy [the sweeper role] but I am working on it. I'm really strong when we low block and the ball comes into the box. I feel really strong.
"But we play that way and I adapt. I have had training sessions on this with balls in behind and deciding when to go. With my national team and all my career I play low block, this is something new to me as well. I am adapting and doing something quite right.

This was pointed out as concerning by me when Emery came in because Emi wasn't brought up and taught how to play the ball out or has a natural aptitude for Emerys football. And I doubt I was the only one who had wondered if could and would fit Emery's style.
He has, in all credit, frequently demonstrated understanding of the role and though he takes his time he has gotten better overall.
Martínez seems to be much more aware of now and is clearly getting used to playing football. I'm not sure why he wishes to criticise but three clean sheets in last 3 games shows he's in top form.
Although it's a new year, he still needs to monitor his discipline since I think he will continue to receive unnecessary bookings. And unfortunately one day he'll be sent off if he's not careful.
Martinez One-on-one is just amazing I think he's the most dominant keeper in the league, and with some fine-tuning of his possession, distribution and sweeping, it'll only benefit us more both offensively and defensively and of course help the game control.
Against Newcastle I expect him to have learned from his mistakes in the 5-1 setback at that start of the season and to hope for him to keep another clean sheet.
Vamos Martinez.
World Class Winner.
