I loved the way he rallied the crowd at one point and then after Lenglet made a cock up he gave him a hug with a don’t worry mate.
Noticed that too.
Quality.

Bloody love the bloke.

Some interesting comments...

Quote

"I don't really enjoy [the sweeper role] but I am working on it. I'm really strong when we low block and the ball comes into the box. I feel really strong.

"But we play that way and I adapt. I have had training sessions on this with balls in behind and deciding when to go. With my national team and all my career I play low block, this is something new to me as well. I am adapting and doing something quite right.
"

This was pointed out as concerning by me when Emery came in because Emi wasn't brought up and taught how to play the ball out or has a natural aptitude for  Emerys football. And I doubt I was the only one who had wondered if could and would fit Emery's style.
He has, in all credit, frequently demonstrated understanding of the role and though he takes his time he has gotten better overall.
Martínez seems to be much more aware of now and is clearly getting used to playing football. I'm not sure why he wishes to criticise but three clean sheets in last 3 games shows he's in top form.

Although it's a new year, he still needs to monitor his discipline since I think he will continue to receive unnecessary bookings. And unfortunately one day he'll be sent off if he's not careful.
Martinez One-on-one is just amazing I think he's the most dominant keeper in the league, and with some fine-tuning of his possession, distribution and sweeping, it'll only benefit us more both offensively and defensively and of course help the game control.

Against Newcastle I expect him to have learned from his mistakes in the 5-1 setback at that start of the season and to hope for him to keep another clean sheet.

Vamos Martinez.
World Class Winner.

Emi Martinez one to one save against Long staff in the 90th minute v Newcastle tonight just highlights how he's the best in the goalkeepers business.
Absolutely incredible.

Absolutely piss poor distribution tonight. Heading practice for Dan Burn time and time again.

He did 'that world cup save' yet again tonight in that potentially embarrassing piece of play towards the end where Newcastle had three players queueing up to score.

V Sheff Utd.
No goals conceded. So 6 clean sheets now.
A super double save and he would not be beaten easily!
Pleased VAR disallowed their goal as he was worthy of a clean sheet.
Captain when McGinn was subbed off.
Nice touch giving his shirt to supporter at the end.
Well played Emi Martinez!

Brilliant save. My arse was going 50p/20p at the time, but no need.

Brilliant save, but as he was the lions share fault for their first he needed to make up for it. And he definitely did. Compare and contrast to their keepers attempt for Ollies second and the keepers were the difference between who won on the day.

Just stays on his feet a half second longer than most keepers. It's not that long ago we had that mugs gallery of Nyland, Kalinic, Bunn(y) vying to be our number one.....some transformation.

Love the way he celebrates whilst the ball is still in play. he’s bonkers and brilliant in equal measure.

Aside from being outstanding he’s clearly a really excellent teammate and all round good bloke. Takes responsibility for the goal and is open about what he needs to work on and how he tries to improve.

We need to get Champions League for Emi, if nothing else. He deserves it.
