What about winning an honour in itself? I agree that European qualification is little reward but the idea of a Villa captain lifting that wonderful 3 handled trophy at Wembley? In a hearbeat.

What's so unappealing is the word 'conference' and the competing against lower rated teams.
It's essentially the  3rd tier of European competition.

Can see fun matches against the likes of leagues from Republic of Ireland , Northern Ireland and Conaghs Key or the New Saints from Wales. Teams from likes of Estonia , Iceland, Gilbratar , Faroe Islands, Malta, Armenia we all be playing off in qualifiers to compete in the league

So there are trips there to be had if thinking long term and positively.

Still get the glorious failures of those  eliminated in the Europa League play-offs who drop into the competition.

The rest of leagues are made up  from the winners of each Conference League qualifier.

If there was no European qualification whatsoever I would still want to win the cup. It's a major competition. Aston Villa should be in the business of trying to win it.

Edit: basically, what Nev said.

yeah no problem with that. just play the kids in the conference or whatever its called. We'd probably still get to the semis with the arse in it anyway.

Am I the only one who quite likes the thought of returning to the good old days of 3 European tournaments?

I'd be fine with the return of the CWC. This is more like the Watney Cup.

Win the League Cup and then refuse to play in the corresponding European jamboree.
That should be the plan.

Me too mate. The Europa League is too bloated and I miss the Cup Winner's Cup.

No need. This is the general EFL Cup thread which gets updated as we progress to the final, the other is the specific pre-match thread for the Stoke game.
