The goalies are rubbish. Not much improvement in that position in last 15 years compared to outfield positions. I think rather than size of goals the keepers tend to dive a bit like Aaron Ramsdale and plenty of shots just trickle in.

Ultimately though last woman's world cup got massive viewing figures so there is good interest in England at least but anyone thinking they'll ever be 40k going down to VP to watch a WSL game is a bit optimistic unless it's one of those cheap ticket deals.

Would be interesting to see what crowd we would get v SHA if things are hopefully back to normal next season.

Without wishing to appear sexist, why don't they make the pitches and goals a bit smaller? The goalies are made to look even worse by the fact that most of them seem to be about 5'6".  Most male keepers are a foot taller than that, and 6'1" would be considered too small for a bloke in today's game. Women play fewer sets in tennis and they use mostly use shorter, lighter clubs in golf, as examples of sports making changes to suit the fact that women on average are smaller than men.

There's the obvious issues relating to equality, in that if the goal and pitch dimensions were altered, they would have more difficulty in arguing it's the same game as the one the men play.

Then there's the practical one of having to make, purchase and store different sized goalposts. Big clubs may be able to do this, but would local councils be able to do it for park pitches?  Or would they have to segregate some pitches so that only girls/women can play on them, due to the specifications?

They could also try scouting tall girls/women for potential keepers.

Women play off a shorter tee in golf,  I don't see it as an issue of equality, just common sense.

The women’s game is where FFP or a draft system to even out talent would be more relevant than it is in the men’s - it is possible in WSL to buy success relatively quickly as Manchester United are proving & Manchester City have already done.

Goalkeepers was always the reason I didn’t watch but last World Cup they were at least adequate, you would hope with most clubs being aligned to a pro Mens team that they are pooling coaching (once Covid is done!) - would like to think Cutler & his goalie staff are also working with the women keepers

I can't imagine they do that at all. Both are full time jobs, and why would you undermine the women by combining training with the men? It would be a distraction and surely demotivating for the women.

I think the women's game will come on in leaps and bounds and will adapt to the fact that women are undeniably physically different to men. My children are 9 and 7 and the girls in both classes play football as much as, if not more than, they do ballet. My daughter gave up ballet because it was too boring compared to 'real' sport. My son plays in an all boys team but there are sometimes girls in the opposition and they are often the star players, presumably because it's the more committed and sporty girls who stick at it. I watched the England/Germany match at Wembley, which was a great day out. What struck me was the talent and commitment and also the fact that the game is undeniably different because of things like the keeper not being able to kick the ball so far. Different, not worse. As far as I'm aware, women use the same tennis courts as men and play a slightly different way. A male decathlete usually wouldn't beat a top female specialist runner/thrower/jumper but we still watch them and think they're great athletes.

I doubt coaches work with players from other groups but I'd be amazed if the coaches don't work together to share technical and tactical knowledge and develop shared training regimes. You can see pretty clearly that our U23 and U18 teams have adapted to play more like the senior team. I suspect the womens team will do the same in the long run but that right now it's tough because they're quite a long way behind other squad that have been fully professional for a lot longer.

I'm sure the men's team coaches would pass on any benefits of their long experience if asked, but that's not the same as having shared training sessions. The U23s are a different case of course, because their whole reason for being is to advance into the senior men's team.

Early in the season they were generally okay in possession but desperately lacking someone to score. Confidence seems to have affected them and they're getting worse as the season goes on. Have to hope we run out of games before Bristol City have enough time to catch up.

Three new defenders, a midfielder and genuine goalscorer needed. Preferably all tall as they never threaten from set pieces. Look at England the last few years or Germany/USA since forever for how effective a decent, tall, centre-forward can be in women's football. If things don't improve they'll need to start looking for a new manager, too, sadly.

Very sticky hands from the keeper a minute ago, followed by forcing an opening we really should be scoring from.
