It would be nice if we could pick up six points from those first two games at home to Sheffield United and away to Fulham.

Might be helpful if someone made a silly money offer for Egan and/or Fleck. Or is that just us - do other clubs not get their best players picked off them?

Egan and Fleck individually don't get the hearts racing like Duggee and Jack. Maybe they work better in a team of hardworking players and a manager they're scared of upsetting.

As a result of the fixture draw, we are going to be a week behind almost everyone else in gaining match sharpness, until it evens out after a month or so.

Competitive matches are the only way to get match sharp.

Haven't read through this thread, so not sure if it's already been mentioned, but why the fuck are us and Burnley having to miss week one just because of the Manchester clubs?

Why didn't they just pair us up with Burnley for Week 1 and make the postponed fixture the Manc derby so that only 2 clubs are behind rather than 4?

You change one, you have to change them all.

I guess. At least it means we're guaranteed not to be bottom after Week 1. Every cloud eh!   ;)

Wolves were asking for them and Chelsea to get the Manchester clubs first up. Chelsea and Wolves actually played Man. United first two games last season.

Would seem very logical but apparently TV didn't want Manchester derby too early in the season.

The TV companies don't see the fixtures until they're compiled.

Anyone know HOW the fixtures are compiled? Is it an entirely computer generated thing, just with algorithms to avoid having neighbouring clubs playng at home together or something a little measured?

I mean it can't be coincidence that Liverpool face Leeds at Anfield on the opening weekend? It would be interesting to see how the fixture lists are actually put together.

Interesting.

Around March, the Premier League sends to each of its member clubs a form asking them to fill in three things:
1) Are there any dates you wish not to be at home? That is answered in conjunction with the local police.
2) Which club do you want to pair with?
3) Are there any teams you do not wish to play at home on Boxing Day?

So
1) The police will obviously ahve to consider any other major events happening at the same time.
2) I guess we'd be West Brom, but what if they want Wolves?
3) You'd think they might ask about who you don't want to play away to, thus stopping Southampton travelling to Newcastle for example.

So nice to quickly scan the EFL fixtures earlier and not see our name.

Why would an opening fixture of Liverpool v Leeds be particularly coincidental?

Do they try to avoid local derbies on the first game of the season these days? I remember us playing at home to Albion on the first day in 1983 and at home to Coventry on the first day in 1984.
