Subbuteo Villa Park
« on: May 23, 2020, 11:03:54 AM »
Whatever we might think about the new Trinity Road stand compared with the old one, this guy has managed to make it look pretty good at scale. Can't wait until the Subbuteo Holte End.

1971...1st Subbuteo set, you always got a red & white, + blue & white team in the basic set which I added to with a Brazil & Villa team. Got the self adhesive numbers applied to the teams , scratched the hair off our number 9 & we were good to go. Always found that a decent bit of hardboard beneath the pitch worked wonders for long range shots.

I always took advantage of the rule that said own goals counted from anywhere. A 90 yard shot blasting in off a defender won me many a match, although not so many friends.

I have quite a lot of subbuteo in my garage. I wanted to get my son to play it with me when he was younger but the X-box ruined all that.

I’m going to send him a photo of me, so he can place me in the top tier leading the A5 ultras

I never, ever understood the appeal of subbuteo, but that's marvellous.

I could have written that (except the numbers bit) and had the England team, as well.  Stretched pitch stapled to hardboard made it a real game and meant we could play it on the dining room table.

To me, that was the only appeal of subbuteo, the aesthetics. The game I couldn't be arsed with.

I’ve still got Albion, Wolves and Spain teams. I think I might have an England team in that classic 1982 Admiral kit somewhere. You can get an up to date Villa team for about £20 online. In the good old days any self respecting toy shop or department would have had loads of teams to choose from.

I think I had Villa, Man U and Ipswich. The first one I had for Christmas, the others were handed down by a Bluenose uncle who purchased the latter as they couldn't get Blose.

That's excellent !

I had a lot of Subbuteo stuff as a kid but got disillusioned with the game as parents and mates would always step or sit on the players and flatten them. Striker was way better !

I had Villa, Arsenal, Southampton home sets and Man United away for Christmas 1994 but I rarely played it. I remember having the pc game version as well about 2-3 years later. My favourite thing about Subbutteo was the team poster that came with it and had all the teams on it you could buy. Vivid memories of that....
