Wow - that is a real shock. Remember being at the 2002 FA Youth CF and admiring his skills.

I can't see any actual confirmation. Cardiff haven't Tweeted anything, his Wiki page was changed, to "was" and is now back to "is".

Here's hoping.

Didn't Neale Cooper die from an injury sustained in a fall too? Peter Whittingham was a limited player in a limited Villa side but went on to make a lot of appearances for Cardiff if I remember right. Yet another tragic early death for a former Villa player.

I think Whittingham was much better than a limited player, he was a Cardiff legend, and was a prolific scorer (from midfield) at Championship level.

Even in these times, it's a bit of a shock to see someone you remember making his early steps in football suddenly die like that.  RIP.

Did a double-take when I saw this on Twitter, but it is unconfirmed so fingers crossed.

He is two months older than me and I remember his breakthrough under O'Leary coincided with my starting at uni. He had a great left foot, found his level at Cardiff where he was loved.

The Cardiff fan Dinas posted on the Other Games thread that he's passed away, I'm guessing that unfortunately it's true.

Well if it isn't I'm sure AlanClare will be dethroned of his crown and Dinas will get it. (In all seriousness I am hoping for that as it means Whitts is still with us).

This is really tragic news, always kept an eye on his career after he left us and carved out a good career at Cardiff. Condolences to his family, truly heart breaking.
