I've seen nothing in the news about this, but it is very sad. He was still a young fellow.

RIP Whitts.

Such a shame.

Even that is literally just tweet responses and nothing from families or old clubs. I don't hold out much hope, but we have seen before when Twitter has either announced deaths early, or even several year later when someone posts out and it is picked up.

Didn't Neale Cooper die from an injury sustained in a fall too? Peter Whittingham was a limited player in a limited Villa side but went on to make a lot of appearances for Cardiff if I remember right. Yet another tragic early death for a former Villa player.

I think Whittingham was much better than a limited player, he was a Cardiff legend, and was a prolific scorer (from midfield) at Championship level.

Even in these times, it's a bit of a shock to see someone you remember making his early steps in football suddenly die like that.  RIP.

Showed great promise in the early O'Leary games. Then played a bit at the start of MON's reign. Couldn't quite kick on here but was really good at Cardiff down below.

Nothing on BBC as yet but obviously this has come from somewhere so hope he can pull through if he is gravely ill.

Terribly sad news.  He didn't quite make it at the Villa but whenever I saw him playing for Cardiff I always wondered why, as he looked a very very fine player.

BBC nor Sky are reporting this, although Michael Chopra has confirmed it. Very sad. RIP.

Is it me but we do seem to have a high quota of ex players going young

Ugo
Birchy
Atkinson
Regis
Cooper
Now Whittingham

You missed JLloyd Samuel and Eamon Deacy.
You're not wrong.

Just re-plying onTwitter to all the other news though. Like I said, clutching at straws, and I do fear the worst, but I would like to see some sort of official announcement somewhere. Although I suspect wfh / no sports to report on is a reason for a delay on the announcement.

I feel someone would have denied it if it wasn't true by now. Hopefully I'll be proven wrong.

Are they saying anything else? Did he have a fall at home or is/has he been in critical care?

I hope so.

Just had a look on a Cardiff forum, boy, what a player and man he was for them:

Quote
He was more than a legend .....he was a Cardiff City GOD in my eyes. This is absolutely devastating for his family.
I lost my son a year ago at aged 36, and he worshipped him too.
Probably the best, most consistent player we have had at City, probably ever.

The other thing of note was he was very shy, celebrating his goals in 'Sid Cowans' style. If true, I hope we do a testimonial with Cardiff. Apparently, their fans aren't happy he was never given one.

I'm surprised he has stopped playing. I'm guessing injuries and suchlike.

Terrible news if true. I always liked him. One of Nuneaton’s finest, along with Nigel Winterburn and erm...Trevor Peake, I think. RIP Whitts.

Nothing on Sky and they are desperately trying to fill time right now. Nothing on official AVFC website. Can't find this anywhere. Does anyone know the best way to confirm this? Hopefully it's fake news but why someone would do that is mind boggling.
