I know we need to trim the squad, but unless there's another striker up our sleeve then I'd prefer to keep him until at least Wes' return.

Traore played as a central striker for Lyon for a bit didn’t he? Maybe he would be the back up option.

The problem we have with moving players on is that most of the ones we would be happiest to see leave (Lansbury, Jota etc) probably don’t have anywhere near the interest as players like Samatta and Guilbert, who, while they would be more useful squad players, would enable us to generate some money by selling/loaning them.
This.  Absolutely this.

Personally, I'm quite comfortable with going in to this season with Watkins, Davies, Traore, and Wesley as our central striker options, then Grealish, Traore (again), Watkins (again), AEG, and Trez playing out wide.  That's 7 forward players, which is about the right proportion for a squad of 25.  If we bring in another then it'll be a case of shifting one of those (probably AEG or Trez) out too, before they get to a point when we can't sell them for love nor money.

Nice guy, works hard and started well before fading fast.He is definitely on the list of players we can easily live without. I would hope that this allows us to bring in another forward soon as we will be very short on numbers up front again. Don't want to end up like last season with no striker if we pick up injuries.

Should score goals in that league, which is on par with Belgium league football.

We'd get money for Trez but we'd probably have to raffle AEG.

I'd rather stick a fiver in for our local's meat raffle!

Definitely credible, Fenerbahce posted it on the Turkish stock exchange this morning.

Good luck to him. Must have a striker or winger that can play down the middle lined up. Wonder if there is something in the Sarr links as he and Traore can both play as a central striker and as wide forwards. Watkins, Sarr and Traore if they got going one afternoon would be a bloody scary prospect for a sluggish defence.

Reports that it's a done deal for €7
Signed for £8.5m
Sold for €7m = £6.1m.
Don't imagine he was being paid a lot. Probably c.£10k a week.
So he's cost us £1.4m in lost transfer money and £320k in wages.

But at the end of the day we stayed up, which was the goal.
Seemed a nice enough bloke, worked hard, just didn't cut the mustard.
No hard feelings, wish him well for the future.

*£2.4M ?

If true, not too bad. Hard to argue that he played a big part in us staying up but if the only other option to lead the line was El Ghazi, maybe he did make more of a difference than we'll ever know.

Yes, I wish him all the best.  It might just be worth keeping an eye on how he's doing to see if he improves enough for another crack at a much higher level.

Cheers Eamonn.

My arithmetic let me down there.
Also read somewhere that he was on £20k a week, which if true would put his total cost up  towards £3m.

Anyway, after last night's performance I think we can wish Mbwana a find farewell and be pretty confident that his departure won't weaken the squad.

All the best to him, glad he has gone for a fee rather than a loan.
