Defends the ball well when in possession, finds teammates, no slouch when he has to move, all qualities many of our midfielders of the last decade have lacked.

I'd try him wide. Gives you an out ball, might get a bit more space coming in and is a good enough player to play out there, and give you an option. He is never, ever going to be a striker, just no instinct for scoring goals.

Playing Davis seems to me like the last 5 mins of a game when you’re losing so the centre half goes and plays up front. The chances of them scoring are remote, but you just want them to cause havoc with the opposing defence.

Well Benteke did just fine here as did Bent and neither played in a team that were laying out any plates but they weren't living off scraps from them. What they had was wide players that could deliver in this league, unfortunately ours have struggled.

I'd just like to give a bit of faint praise to Samatta for his part in the goal. It looks like he knew Trezeguet was behind him and blocked the defender's first attempt to get past which probably gave Trezeguet enough of a gap to shoot through.
