I wonder if the right leg you can see is Jimmy Armfield's.

The other Villa players for that Blacpool game were

Phillips
Wright
Aitken
Hole
Chatterley
Bruce Rioch
Turnbull
Godfrey
Martin

And Rudge came on as a sub.

Lochhead joined a couple of months later.
Thanks for that PWS - good work
The "mystery player" could be any one of a few in that team - whoever it is looks quite broad around the neck
My father and I travelled home and away from our homes in firstly Hall Green and then Worcester during that season - was that the season Dave Rudge broke his leg at Preston ?

Don't think we've ever had a Tanzanian before

As your resident occasional East African correspondent*, I think it’s good to know Tanzania is a compound name of its two states of Tanganyika and Zanzibar.

*missing the Sheffield game but hoping to get to Uganda’s SC Villa Vs Bright Stars the day before, and perhaps our shock League Cuo Final victory in a bar with the Kampala Lions...

Surprising, considering he's posted 910 times on here.

Theres a thread on Twitter @TheEnamelWorks which had the story of those two Zambian players, with some more good photos.

another gamble - bit of a sure-thing would have been ideal. But, hey-ho.

Maybe, but even signing that AC Milan bloke for £30m would have been a gamble. He might have struggled.

Agree, as he hasn't reproduced his Genoa form in Milan, lots of intangibles when buying players. e.g. even Harry Kane would be a gamble atm. Two major injuries iin the last 2 years where he's out for half a season aged 25-26. Wouldn't like to be splashing out close to 100m plus wages for 3-4 years on him.

OTOH I can't think another Tanzanian striker I'd rather sign than Mbwana! ;)

Anyone with a goal ratio of nearly one goal every two games in a central European league must be half decent at least.

I know this probably a little sad but I’m just massively excited he can head the ball.

Not at all. I’m just massively excited he can run. He's going to be a handful for defenders and even if not scoring he may open up space for other players.

Good luck to him.

Another hopeful punt. Good be great, could be bobbins. Belgium league is pish but doesn't mean he can't step up - least he should be ready at 27.
