Heaton should be saving that header from Wood

A header from 2 yards out?

Thought that at the time but watching the replay Wood didn't seem to get much power in it. Heaton didn't react well enough for me. By the time he got a hand to it, it was already well over the line.

A cross to the back post and a free header from 2 yards out, yet the keeper is at fault. Don’t know where “didn’t get much power” came from as well as it is over the goal line within a fraction of a second of it hitting his head.

You do realise replays are in slow motion and not real time?

It's also possible to save shots "from 2 yards out" but harder if the keeper's starting position is behind the goal line. Watch his back foot. Heaton shouldn't be watching that cross either, should be coming out and challenging Wood.

Periodic reminder that I cannot stand Jay Rodriguez.

I love him especially the way he took his two sitters today.

A game that we had to win and we did. Pleasing to see the reaction after the Watford game. After another Watford win and Southampton win - it looks like it is going to be an incredibly tall order to stay up but first half we showed our best football for weeks whilst in the second half we showed some resolve to hang on.

Observations

The three at the back added some solidity - also liked particularly in the first half how the defenders bought the ball out - which pushes the team up the pitch and negates douglas going back to get the ball. We must persist with this system.

Grealish was absolutely superb

The rest of the team tried really hard and best weve seen of them

We need to go and buy/loan three big players  - Striker, athletic midfielder and another winger.

The likes of Lansbury, Kodija can go if we get replacements.

Hourihane also simply cannot cover the ground and is such a huge quandry

Always enjoy winning at one of my local away grounds!

Very assured first half performance where I thought the formation worked a treat.  Second half didn't quite have the same spark and thought we might rue missing the chance very early on.  Nervous last nine minutes... but thought we saw those out reasonably well.

I know it is possible, but in most cases it isn’t which is why they look spectacular when they do happen and mostly it is the striker hitting it directly at the keeper rather then the keeper leaping and saving it.

If there was blame, it was our players forgetting Ashley Westwood does not play for us any longer and has been coached how to cross better, and Hause or Marvellous for just falling against Woods rather the at least trying to jump challenge. However it was a quality ball in and I wouldn’t be saying the defence should have done better if we had scored it.

Final point: I hope the woman in Row S or T (Seat number roughly 20) is okay: after the second goal, young idiots cahrged down the steps and fell over and onto her - she was completely oblivious to what ws going on but ended up on a stretcher.
Yes, she was fine, she emerged just after half time and came down to the front by us.
Those steps are too big and access is poor, though that doesn't excuse that reckless behaviour.

The away end is like that as it's an old terrace with seats bolted in. The last time I went we had the whole end and the concourse couldn't cope so smeg knows it coped when it was a terrace with a bigger capacity.

They have a marquee on the car park for beer, so although it was congested and cramped, it wasn't as bad as it could have been.

What was the MoM award given to Jack there? It looked like a can of WD40.

Surely BT Sport can do better than that. A can of deodorant at least.
