An excellent performance and result.

The system made us look so much more solid out of possession. Admittedly Burnley are a long ball/percentage football side and unlikely to play between your lines, but we smothered them and denied them opportunities.

They matched us second and won a lot of corners, which was their aim, but we competed well.

I thought it took the wing backs a bit of time to get to grips, but that will come. I liked Jack and Trez narrower and they found a lot of space.

Two bad injuries, disgusting from the Burnley morons to boo Wesley off.

If anything typified today it was our second. Trezuguet competing hard for the ball, winning it and us breaking, Jack more central, Wesley more confident, just light years ahead of Saturday's dismal effort.

VAR is a joke. I dont see how Wesley is interfering and I dont spend 30 quid for somebody in a shed 100 miles away to decree our player is 0.5mm offside. I also thought there was a really obvious push on Mings for their goal.

Still, that is the sort of effort and quality needed to to stay up in this division.

Fully agree, that was a bad tackle and not even a foul. VAR useless as usual.

Yes that's a well known stat in itself.

He was excellent today. I've criticised Mings since he got picked for England, but having him back made a difference just by his physical presence, and the defenders generally did so much better.

I though Luiz was better, but not convinced with Marvelous and Trezeguet. They worked hard enough, but we'll need more quality to get out of trouble.

I didn't recognise us in the first half, as we were so much in control. Confidence will have been low, so the indifferent second half was explicable, but I think we let Burnley do their obvious and predictable first time crosses far too often for comfort.

I was watching Kodjia closely,  and he certainly looks like a player who's going to be leaving. Wesley had done well and used his physicality properly today so it was a shame about the injury.

Last I heard, early December, he was. Doubt it's changed. He's canny and his low pads seem to act like a red rag to a bull.

Great win, didn’t see it coming to be honest. Hope Smith sticks to the formation.

I said on a different thread, Smiths Purslows appointment, the owners wouldn’t of heard of him, so he’s obviously personally invested in Deano succeeding, just a show of solidarity I guess.

Let’s not all have a meltdown if we lose to Man City in a couple of weeks. 5 more wins is achievable.

A much needed and well deserved three points especially after the VAR bollocks in the first half. The system seemed to suit  us and big Wes so it's typical that he's now got injured. Mings coming back in was a massive plus as well.

Great stuff. An enormous 3 points.

Credit to Smith, a bold call paid off.

That's the system for me now, still needs work but if we can upgrade 2/3 of Nakamba, Trez and Wes we'll stay up. Be great if we could get one of Bowen/Benrahma or Benteke/Batshuayi.

Doh😁😁 Wes is better than both Benteke and Batshuayi and has a better goals per game ratio over last 3 years. He was very good today and we know why - he got some service and support. But the Wesley haters who called for Kodjia will not change their mind because they do not understand about football unlike me who has been a regular for 56 years and know a good player when I see one😎😎 I would love to have seen the comments about Wes had he done what Kodjia did with Trezeguet totally unmarked to his side. Kodjia showed today why he hasn't been picked.

Work has seen me in Cape Verde over new year and having to rely on the match thread and the Sky Sports app has left me a nervous wreck. Particularly the 9 MINUTES added time. Fantastic win and hopefully a building block. I was hopeful that Watford was the lowest point and I’m sticking with that thought

Jack Grealish is without doubt the best Villa player I have watched in the last 45+ years. But, Tyrone Mings makes a huge difference to the team, he's seems to hold everything together.
