Jack and Wesley were offside.

Yeah, i've just had another look.  It was a calf muscle offside.  My apologies. (I'm still claiming robbery though, as is my right).

But the rules says:

"Offside offence
A player in an offside position at the moment the ball is played or touched* by a team-mate is only penalised on becoming involved in active play by:
interfering with play by playing or touching a ball passed or touched by a team-mate or
interfering with an opponent by:
preventing an opponent from playing or being able to play the ball by clearly obstructing the opponent’s line of vision or
challenging an opponent for the ball or
clearly attempting to play a ball which is close when this action impacts on an opponent or
making an obvious action which clearly impacts on the ability of an opponent to play the ball"

He was just strolling back down the wing, nowhere near anybody.

Have they dropped the rule where you can be ahead of the play (offside) but if you are retreating - like jack - then you become on-side again once the opposition defence plays you onside again?

The ball goes to Jack who crosses to Wesley. Both were involved in the goal.

As Grealish was the player that touched the ball next after it was played forward I don't see how we can argue he was inactive.

Yes but the ball was played wide to him and he made the cross that led to goal mouth scramble.

massive monkey off our backs for me

I know they are not the Man Utd of old but we really really needed to get something out of one of the so called top 6 sides to give us some belief that we could do it
I didn’t think we would but we did so now we can move on with a bit more confidence

My 11 year old lad has never seen us lose at Old Trafford he don’t know what all the fuss is about

I don't believe that was ever the case. If one was interfering, you've always been off. We see players penalised all the time for coming back from an offside position.

I don't believe that that shows the exact millisecond that the ball is played.

I’m wrong.  You and PWS are correct.  There needs to be another ‘phase of play’ to be back on side, typically someone else touching the ball.
