I get the feeling the the Wolves manager took the easy option and the excuse tonight by fielding the team he did. He knew that he would have had to throw in a fair few first teamers to get a result against our lot tonight and then  it still would have been up in the air. Instead he excused himself and the club by fielding reserves. He and Wolves weren't up for the fight tonight and rightfully got dispatched with minimum fuss by our reserve team. Whatever excuse is ready made for them, it was our reserve team that beat them without breaking a sweat. They might aswell hadn't bothered and stayed in Wolverhampton drinking Bovril for the night to keep warm.

They won't like losing to a team full of (their words) championship level players. That's what makes it funnier.

They'll be banging on about beating us in the league in a few weeks, etc. Good luck to them. They're going to fucking well need it in their quest to be bigger than West Brom.

Usual bullshit being spouted on WM.  Mel Eves Villa first teamers playing only a bit better bla bla bla. We looked like we were in 2nd gear.

It was one of the most comfortable victories in recent history.

I think that's put to bed a few myths about gaps, levels and whatnot.

Our squad is ok, will be tested throughout the season, but we were ok. Konsa, Hause and Luiz played well. Trezeguet is non stop and always looking to create.

Taylor should be shipped out at some point, however. Though to be fair, he got forward ok. A liability at times when defending.

Wolves not as good as they think they are, and for their numbers, crap away support. An orange Tamworth.

No need for that!  ;D

Haha. Apologies!

If i was a wolves fan would be well pissed off with the meek attempt to get through the round.  As for the Villa made heavy weather of beating a team of kids plus an old head in goal.  Onwards and upwards.

Player ratings tonight? Anyone at all putting pressure on getting in the team for Liverpool? Luiz, Hourihane, Trez and AEG had the most to gain pre-game you would think.
No as opposition was very weak. CB's did ok but never had any pressure.

Don't know why some moan on El Ghazi especially as he was noticeably tracking back and saved Taylor aswell as coverage for Elmo also slipped the ball in well for a goal.

Biggest problem with Trez is he doesn't impose himself and has lacked finishing off chances as he again could have scored.
Also could do with getting to grips with physicallity of the game.

Agree both could be more apparent in attacking sense however the whoscored.com ratings system have El Ghazi highest rated.

Douglas , I found being the man most in possession of ball perhaps could've made a lot more telling contribution and seemed to stroll although pretty decent on the ball, could have been far more effective as the ratings systems suggests.

El Ghazi 7.85
Lansbury  7.83
Elmo 7.82
Trézéguet 7
Hause 6.99
Davis 6.92
Hourihane 6.85
Konsa 6.61
Taylor 6.39
Steer 6.31
Douglas 5.97

Subs:
Kodjia 6.23
McGinn 6.22

I don’t even want to think how much you’ve analysed this game to give players marks out of 10 to 2 decimal places.

But whatever system it’s clearly horrific if you have Douglas as the worst.

No, Wolves didn't seem that bothered did they? We should have made it more convincing than it was but it was fairly comfortable. Tresequet looked like he's slowly starting to get to grips with things and I don't think is first goal his too far away. Oh and the ref's added 6 minutes was laughable.

What a rubbish ratings system. Is that taken from a website, Footy?

In a very rare occurrence for me, I shouted out when the 4th Official put up the 6 minutes. Specifically........ "Show us your workings"

Those stats are mental, as they were for the Brighton game.

They seem to be incredibly skewed by goals and assists which would explain the low points for defenders and excessive scores for payers who had relatively poor games but scored (Targett).

Comfortable evening, won it without getting out of 2nd gear. I was surprised how young, weak and inexperienced their second string was.

Dean Smith fucked up with the substitution with John McGinn picking up an unnecessary yellow card. There was no need for him to come on when he did.

Maybe, but there was also absolutely no need for McGinn to make that challenge in that manner. Reminiscent of some of his dafter stuff throughout the first half of last season.

That tackle was the highlight of the night for me.
