Yes because obviously loads of youngsters are going to come home early from their skunk laden house and club parties to tune into MOTD with Roman.

I like Mark Chapman, he’s easily the best for MOTD.

If the BBC are going to put on a ‘highlights show with just goals because that’s what everyone else has’, then Sooty could present, it would make little difference.

MOTD is about experts having interesting discussions about the game, the tactics and the play of key individuals, showing their tactical awareness/expertise, after extended highlights up to 20 minutes or so. Stephen Warnock is very good, so is Martin Keown who interviews players well; Ashley Williams is engaging and interesting, Sue Smith on Sky is excellent as well. I like the current experiment with inviting football writers on to comment. I can get just goals from the Villa website, and very nice it is, too!

If the new guy in charge of recruitment for MOTD doesn’t realise what a jewel in the football crown the BBC currently has with MOTD, and the audience that appreciates it, he’s not that bright.

Chapman is perfect for MOTD2 , a good wingman but not a main host .

Chapman is better than most of the current hosts, so he gets my vote

I find the analysis of the games and discussion of the tactics very interesting. I really don't notice those things when I'm at the game itself so find it really helpful to hear the experts showing what is going on. I've never played football, which probably accounts for my lack of tactical awareness!

That’s what I like about MOTD, as well.
Some guests are much better than others!

The host has to do more than smile and introduce. GL has credibility and can comment on the football as well as letting the guests shine. He’s going to be difficult to replace.

Unless they go for a brainless ‘shots of the day’, in which case, Sooty.

Sorry, VillaTim, didn’t realise that Sooty wouldn’t be a childhood reference!
He’s always been around for me.

Yep. 👍
I'm with you now . Dilemma for BBC is go with an ex player who can anchor well and remain neutral or go for a Des Lynam type .

Works better with a small team of presenters…. sooty, sweep and Sue…. The dream team
