Moved on to 91/2 early into the 21st over. Not a bad recovery from losing 2 soft wickets but we need to score faster if we want to set a decent target.

Ended up with 278 with a bunch of fifties in the middle order.

In reply we have them at 57/5 Johal and Bulpitt with 2 each and 1 for Rhodes. I'm really impressed with Bulpitt in particular for today.

Northants 144-9, a batsman retired injured so the Bears won by 134 runs.

We seem to have a solid group of young players here

Phoenix doing well. I’ve enjoyed The Hundred far more than I thought I would, and even more so the Women’s game. The crowds have been really good and most of the matches competitive.

Was thinking that Imran Tahir was well over the hill, but he’s taken a 5 for tonight, finishing the match with a hat trick.

I watched the women's game this afternoon, a superb performance from the ladies. I think they said it was the first time in the competition that a side had won by ten wickets.  Not bad from a team that was bottom of the league.

Imran Tahirs hat trick celebration was a joy to behold.

I'm still a bit discombobulated a bit by the lack of overs. The commentators seem to be too, calling five ball "overs" a batch, a set a series of five. Or ten.

I'm so used to being told that the run rate is so-much per over. They've introduced economy rats for bowlers, but with no visual guide what the economy rates are calculated against.

Ah well, I suspect I'll survive.

P.S. It's really refreshing to see the women smiling a lot, as if it's a game rather than a living, if you get what I mean.

It's a game of cricket and as such has the ability to thrill. Everything else around it is superfluous. From the bands, to the "every ball counts" slogan, from the arch the players walk through to the awful sycophantic and downright dishonest commentary.

I've enjoyed the games because I enjoy Cricket but I'm a Brummie and have a dog in the fight, if I was a Pear perhaps I wouldn't so much.

Still undecided about it all really, but do think it has been really good to see Moeen Ali representing and doing so well for a Birmingham team.  Fully accept he is a Worcestershire player and their fans may not be as keen, but he is from the city and may not have always got the recognition he deserves.  Would have been good to see Woakesy alongside him - does he actually play cricket any more?  I jest, but I do find the handling of him and the time he spends on the sidelines very frustrating.

I don't like the coverage of the hundred so far, but I'm less bothered about the concept than I thought I'd be. The 5 or 10 ball spell thing adds an interesting dynamic that I like and I think the 'levelling up' between the mens and womens games is a good step in the right direction. I like that in the couple of weeks it has existed we can already see the game evolving as players start to understand it better, with Birmingham leading the way in that so far. I never believed that removing 20 deliveries would change it from t20 but having watch about 8-9 matches now I think they will actually end up being quite different.

I think the presentation of the game, where every player is a world class co-star and the crowd are the other co-stars is straight from the IPL. I’ve watched almost every game so far, and I watch with the sound down and my music playing.

P.S. the crowd scenes do show that a remarkable number of kids, of every sex, are there. A jolly good thing.

.....except, every player isn't a world class star. I know that COVID caused the withdraw of some big names, but I think that's helped.

It's great to see some of the young county players doing well. Will Smeed is a great example, a Somerset 2nd XI player with just a few T20 games under his belt.

Fans (new and existing) will now be able to follow his progress and could see him in an England squad after the next T20 World Cup.
