"#avfc agree £8m deal for Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton. Improved offer was accepted last night #twitterclarets via @telegraph https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2019/07/31/aston-villa-agree-8m-deal-burnley-goalkeeper-tom-heaton/"

Quote
Aston Villa are set to sign Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton after agreeing an £8m deal last night.

Heaton is due for a medical at Villa in the next 48 hours after an improved offer was accepted for the England international.

Dean Smith, the Villa head coach, has been determined to bring in another goalkeeper this summer and Heaton will leave Turf Moor after a six-year spell.

It is understood the fee is £8m, with a modest add-on of £500,000.

Heaton, 33, played the first half of Burnley’s 6-1 victory over Nice in a pre-season friendly on Tuesday night.

He is poised to become Villa’s 12th signing of the summer, following the club’s promotion to the Premier League.

Smith had also considered Stoke’s Jack Butland and Cardiff’s Neil Etheridge but the signing of Heaton, who had less than a year remaining on his Burnley contract, will be seen as a shrewd purchase.

Marvelous Nakamba, the Zimbabwe international, is also poised to complete his £11 million move in the next few days subject to a medical and visa.

If Percy is saying it, it must be so.

I would be very pleased with a Heaton.
If I recall we were linked with him some time ago but it obviously didn’t happen then.
When he got back in the Burnley team after injury earlier this year, his performances were brilliant.

I think he’s a top keeper, and still has a few years left in him.

Great stuff, hope it happens. Solid, experienced, in one of the positions where you can’t really afford to gamble. One striker to go and the basics are covered.

Only 33 so that's 5 good years in him yet. Current England international. What's not to like.

It's the one position you don't want to really gamble and don't mind if you get an older bloke in. Seems like an excellent acquisition, Burnley fans don't want him to leave which is always a good sign.

Welcome Tom "Central" Heaton. 😊

Seems like a decent signing, hopefully just a 3 year deal, as he is 33 soon to be 34

Can someone please explain the love in with Maupay? his he that good that we desperately need to sign him?, and if we do where would he play?

An incredibly good goalkeeper. Only concern is his injury record but I assume they'll scan his shoulder as part of medical and hopefully all will be okay.

Big deal for us if this goes through.

25 goals last season and assists too. Can play centrally and wide, and currently our striker options are pretty sparse past Wesley.

Burnley fans are gutted, which is a good sign. He's not too old for a goalkeeper, is at his peak and given he's about £15m cheaper than Butland, makes sense.

I think this is the ideal one for us. Experienced keeper to go straight in whilst we're re-establishing ourselves in the PL (which is where his experience has been gained) and at an age where he's still in his peak but in a few years may be ready to stand down so it doesn't rule out Jed Steer getting more chances which i think he's earned.
