Marvellous Nakamba is a brilliant back up to a proper DM. I don’t think that is Doug’s best position but he’s done some unheralded work in making our defence what it has become. But we saw in the first season he can get forward and score some screamers. His challenge now having lost that DM position in the last two games is to become an effective CM.

Of all our CMs, Marvelous is the only one who is clearly good at a specific role (stopper/water-carrier). All the others are half-decent at various bits of a midfielder's game but without one particularly strong suit. Maybe as good a reason to keep him as any.

He was acatully Marvelous.

It takes a great deal of ability to quote yourself and still make spelling mistakes. Well done.

Had a decent game today but overall he's not really good enough. The centre of midfield is an area that needs addressing in the summer. We need more strength, passing, pace and goal threat.

Interesting how much game time Marv will have this season
There has been recent talk that Everton and Crystal Palace want to sign him.
In January the African nations is taking place in Cameroon so both Nakamba would like a sufficient match time but also his absence has to be noted for his specialist position and cover in the team

Made 13 league matches  last season  and we won 9.
One at this time to keep for me as a useful squad player who be used in certain matches

Good stat Footy.  But I agree with Risso, if we can get someone with more consistency and keep Marv to continue improving, rather than sell him to Palace or Everton, that would be my preference.

Marv appears to be making steady progress, perhaps it's down to a combination of being settled, good coaching and awareness of what Premier League football is all about.  I'd definitely keep him.

I still say Nakamba is better than Gueye was at the same stage. He is stronger all round and as the potential to be the perfect anchorman.

I agree with you, Dave.
Albeit a friendly, yesterday he played well and his passing was pretty reasonable. Definitely continuing to improve.

Perhaps the key with Marv is the fewer games he plays, the less consistency is an issue. Over 38, you might see a drop off in form for a good 30%, which is a significant chunk. But when he's playing 15-20 games and with specific plans in place, it might be easier to achieve that consistency.

His biggest weakness is moving the ball on quickly and efficiently.

He’s no Ron Burgandy.
