I was totally wrong about him. If you have somebody who can play that role as effectively as he does you need to be playing him, particularly against good teams.

I completely agree, I also had my doubts at times

I think I’m correct in saying we’ve not conceded a PL goal with him on the pitch this season.

I think that sitting in front of the centre halves is made for him and he doesn’t get distracted. Doug cam play there but can also play further forward so sometimes loses focus

Great shift again from Marv tonight. The midfield needed all the energy it could get tonight.

It’s up to Douggie to improve and get back in the team for me.

I think we need to try the Luiz + Marvelous base to our midfield.  Then give McGinn (and Luiz) more freedom.

I don’t think Luiz is a DM, so lots of opportunities for him to play with or with Marvelous

I wasn’t a fan of his because most his previous performances weren’t brilliant.

He was either not wanting the ball and invisible or when he got stuck in didn’t do well. He did have a few halves of games where he was okay.

But this evening he seemed to be two seconds quicker to every challenge because you could see him reading the game.

Let’s hope he can do this more often because as tonight shows Dean & Co need all the options available to be able to rotate a good team.

Struggled last season, but not put a foot wrong this year with limited minutes. Has earned more. Keep it up my man.

Should stay in the side after that performance. Like others, I had my doubts but he has grown into it and has played well so far. Offers much more physicality than Douglas too.

Douglas is a brilliant player. Marv is a different type of player, good time see him play a blinder tonight.

A great performance from Marv versus dirty Leeds. Held his position well and supported the 2 cbs brilliantly. If Marv had played against Leicester maddison would not have had the freedom of VP especially in that 1st half. Keep up the good work Marv!

He is the best player in the squad for snapping into tackles and breaking up play. I don't even think it is purely about his physical presence. I think it can be about the opponent knowing that they are going to get tackled and then changing what they do and maybe losing some confidence.

We can be a little easy to play through at times. If you give good players time then they will hurt you. Snap into them and they make mistakes.

I'd have Marv in my team every week.

Last season he had the habit of getting wrong side of attackers , giving free kicks away and switching off.
We did very well yesterday to not give free kicks around our area.

True.  Last season our midfield was a bit shapeless with everyone trying to be everything.  This year we’ve accepted that we need at least one holding player.  I think a ‘holding and breaking up play’ role suits Marv’s strong points and mitigates against his weaknesses.
