Agreed that Bjorn belongs nowhere near some of those charlatans.

…and I’d have Steve Sims over that c*** Lescott very single time. He was exactly the sort of no nonsense CB we needed to get out of the second division that season.

Nothing wrong with Steve Sims. Limited but did enough. Engels shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence as Lescott or Richards. Good luck to the guy.

I think the point is that he would not be in the 50 worst transfers because of 1 comment.
No disrespect to Engels.

I'm not sure Engels qualifies as a bad signing either by money spent or by just being crap really.  A decent punt on someone who could have made the grade based on his career up to that point,, didn't work out, manager obviously didn't fancy him at the end. If Smith ends his time at Villa with just the likes of Engels and Samatta in the negative column, he'll have done well I reckon.
And Jota

I liked Zat Knight, he got quite a bit of unwarranted stick, but did a good job when called upon.

Well Knight gets more stick than he probably deserves because we bought him, a very average premiership defender to push a future England captain and serial winner further down the pecking order and eventually forcing his departure

Still, enjoyed his equaliser against Arsenal late on.

Think he scored an own goal for Fulham against us, not long before we signed him too.

Yeah, neither Zat Knight nor Tom Cleverley were anywhere near our worst signing.

Shame it didn't work out for us.  I never thought he was as bad as people make out and certainly in his first few games he looked like he may become a very decent signing.  I'm also not sure he's quite as slow as some think - I suspect he was carryng an injury when he made some of his big errors.  Ultimately he was stuffed by injury, Konsa coming through and possibly a falling out with the coaches.

No idea what his attitude was like but from the outside he looked like he kept is head down but just couldn't get a look in.  Either way I wish him luck.

You're right he's not particularly slow but too slow for the Prem and noticeably so .  It was his only downside I could see.

Zat Knight was a typical MON surplus to requirements squad player. Was he in the first or second bunch of defenders he bought two years on the bounce?

That said he did feature in every squad in the one season he was with us.

That's not really true though....Knight was bought as a backup player but played more due to likes of Laursen getting injured if I recall. As a backup player I don't think he was too bad. MON rated Curtis Davies higher than Cahill, that was the decision he got wrong.

You could be right. My memory is a bit vague. I know he didn't really play much after Knight arrived. I think the overall lesson is MON preferred yer hoof masters as Collins and Dunnes' arrival later proved and a defender like Cahil who was comfortable on the ball as well as a good defender was rather superfluous in his opinion.
