Then again, it’s probably worth keeping Bogarde. His wages aren’t a problem and he has potential to develop further.

Always work keeping an emergency sacrifice to please the SCR gods around the place as well.

Keep Bogarde if we miss CL and sell Onana.  We will need to generate some cash to spend.  Buy Doug regardless and allow Barkley to leave on a free.

I'd make Doug permanent. Lost all love for him in his final season and gave him a look of haughty derision when he left but he now knows he can't play anywhere else but Villa Park, he's knuckled down, contributed, and done enough for that deal.

I'd swap him for Onana and 25m profit right now.

I think Emery will move on Bogarde if we get a reasonable offer. Not just for FFP/PSR etc reasons.

I think him and Tielemans are quite similar players, but would say the latter has been better for us and would be first choice if it came to it.

I dont. Yuri is world class, Dougie is nowhere near his level.

Douglas is doing a good job for us whilst we nurse our midfielders back to health. Is he our future? No. He’s good but he’s not great. We need great.

You don’t need “great” across the squad. You need players of Doug’s quality to have a strong squad, we should absolutely have him as a medium term replacement for Barkley.

Maybe right now...it's not too long ago plenty on here were criticising Tielemans inability to play in a two and Luiz being on a different level - goals, set piece delivery etc.

Even when fit I'm not sure Tielemans has been all that this season. Injuries biggest issue obviously.

You have some wild opinions. Tielemans is absolutely exceptional and coupled with Kamara, there is not a midfield in the league or Europe I'd swap them for.

Hardly that wild, the year we qualified for the CL Emery continually picked Luiz over Tielemans in that position. Why was that?

Tielemans is a fantastic player at his best, don't get me wrong.

As Luiz was playing excellent football, that dropped off second half of that season. I like Dougie, but he's nowhere near as good as a Yuri that has adapted brilliantly to Emery's system. Tielemans makes drek like Buendia look good, brings miles more out of Onana, makes Rogers tick.

Interesting discussion. I love Dougie and was a fan of his signing and he’s been… OK. I think he can improve but a lot of his play has been far too safe and he hasn’t moved the ball as fast as we need.

I could see us going for someone like Bergvall who we’ve had a long term interest in - obviously if we get CL.

This version of Luiz is Tesco's Ashley Westwood, if Ash was Poundland.

tbh I think he’s done OK since he’s come back, obviously room for improvement but I’ve got no problems with any of his performances so far, I mean he’s playing in our worst form period probably for three years so that doesn’t help but I don’t think he’s the main problem in that
