The midfielder signed for Villa from Luton Town in the summer of 2024, with some reports at the time saying he had agreed a three year deal, others suggesting it was two plus an option.

That's a steal if he performs we will have hands down the best midfield in the league for squad depth and game changing subs.

Such a shame that we royally screwed Juve with this. They don't deserve such cruelty.

From The Athletic

Dougie confirmed

ASTON VILLA AGREE DOUGLAS LUIZ LOAN DEAL WITH OPTION TO BUY

David Ornstein

Aston Villa have agreed a deal to sign Douglas Luiz on loan from Juventus.

The agreement includes an option for the Premier League club to buy the midfielder for €25million (£21.7m) plus add-ons at the end of the season, and will terminate his current deal with Nottingham Forest.

The 27-year-old is undergoing the final parts of a medical on Wednesday ahead of completing the move.

The switch will see the Brazil international return to the club where he made over 200 appearances between 2019 and 2024.

Chelsea had been weighing up a loan move of their own but declined to pursue further after an initial enquiry.

Villa are short in midfield, and have been considering reinforcements with Youri Tielemans facing an extended period on the sidelines after sustaining an ankle injury in the second half of their win against Newcastle United on Sunday.

The Athletic reported that Boubacar Kamara will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury, while captain John McGinn is expected to be out for six weeks.

Luiz has only made eight top-flight appearances this term on loan at Forest from Serie A side Juventus, having sustained a hamstring injury earlier in the season.

Luiz moved to Italy from Villa for €50million plus €1.5m in add-ons in the summer of 2024, but struggled to establish himself as a starter in his first season, playing 90 minutes only twice.

Villa are third in the Premier League, on the same points as second-placed Manchester City, after 23 games.

Is anyone worried about his physical condition ? Suggestions from Forest fans that he can't run or last a whole game. Dyche has given-up on him pretty quickly even allowing for his preference for sawdust physicality over footballing finesse.

I think he'll definitely need to be subbed for Barkley until he gets any sort of fitness back.

I watched him in Forests FA Cup game, he was atrocious. Looked insanely sluggish and was hooked at half time. Saying that, you'd be a hard pressed to find a midfielder less suited to Dycheball.

The concern is what happened to make his form drop off so severely before he left us, which appears not to have returned.
Having seen both versions of him, one the imperious commanding midfielder and the other flat forlorn almost disinterested.
I just hope we can get him back to somewhere near his best.
The last few months with us could've been anything though.  Did he know that he was off in the summer and was a bit disheartened by it all?  Was he absolutely exhausted coming to the end of that season, as a number of our other players were?

I'm honestly not too concerned about that, or his form since (was barely given a chance at Juventus, then entirely unsuited to how Forest play).  It's low risk for us.  We need more bodies in to cover injuries anyway - the alternative is playing kids, which is all fine and dandy except 1 more injury and the midfield will be mostly kids.  If he's rubbish we send him back in 5 months time.  If he's good, we get a player back at a fraction of what we sold him for 18 months ago.

Then look at the potential upside when we're back to closer to full strength again.  We already have one of the best first XIs in the league, maybe even the best.  This puts us on to a point where we will also have one of the strongest, if not the strongest, benches in the league too .... with a manager who's more than capable of changing the entire course of the game with his substitutions.

As before - it's a low risk, high reward transfer.

He definitely doesn't look as physically fit for Juve the couple of times I watched him or Forest than he did when he last played for us. But Emery won't want him charging around the place like Dyche did. Sit in next to Onana and get playing on the half turn, he's more than capable of that. When his fitness and confidence returns we might see him pressing a bit higher like he did to perfection in that home game v Brighton a couple of years back.

75mins v Brentford at the weekend please Dougie.

If he can play 60-70 minutes and play well then we still have Bogarde, Hemmings and hopefully Barkley in reserve.

Does anyone have a screen grab of Barkley correcting Villans about his contract? Pretty impressed he logs onto TBAR or VillaTalk, I guess we need to be more demanding in our way if we want him to sign-up to H&V.

If he didn't weigh in on whether fascism has to be totalitarian or can be merely authoritarian, he probably never will.
He has to be demanding of himself if he wants to sign up to H&V.  At the bare minimum he should at least be able to add a few non-duplicate entries to The Chain thread.

Thing is Forest had an obligation to buy if he played over 45 minutes in so many games so they were taking him off because they didn't want it to turn into a buy. Bit like our Elliott situation.

Forest fans have said he cant last matches but beggars cant be choosers in our position.

we have analysts including a relative of mine.

Realistically he will play either 60 mins or 30 mins under Unai anyway.
