Speaking with absolutely zero authority on such things, but I think having Doug and Tammy back is going to be brilliant for the dressing room.

What a day, so great to see two former players so keen to come back

We can't be choosy in our SCR and injury position. What we've got is a player seemingly desperate to come back, he was clearly a big part of the dressing room and family that Unai has fostered, and we're here to get close to his best he's clearly as good a player as we could hope for. I'm praying we see his best, if we do, Onana will have stayed fit too, as that's how we'll see the best of Doug. Let's hope Unai re-ignites that fire. He does, we're going to do ok.

His highlights reel with us is pretty spectacular. Set piece delivery, weight of pass, excellent finisher. Ideal for the Brentford game if they sit in deep like Everton did.

It's easy to forget that the way he played in Emery's first six months was enough to get him Supporter's Player of the Season and Player's Player of the Season that year.

If we get even 80% of that, we're laughing. And not being amazing for Sean Dyche's 17th placed Nottingham Forest is not enough to make me think that we won't be laughing.

He will be playing to get that long term contract and not to had to leave again. I think he will motivated from the off. Not just because of Emery, but because of the great characters all around him at the club. This is a title and trophy chasing Villa now.

Trying to recall any midfield player ever excelling under Dyche.

At points under Emery he was as good as any player Ive seen play for us.

If he gets anywhere close to his best this will be a great signing.  I think he relished his role at the club - as a senior player in the squad - I think it made him take responsability.

Desperately need numbers in midfield and dont know a better option, particularly given our constraints.

Even that Elliot Anderson's form has fallen off. Got sent off the last day. When they actually tried to play against us they gave us a decent game. They were trying to keep the score down before then.

I haven’t got that far in Guillemot Balague’s book yet but didn’t he say that Villa were ok to let Luiz go as he’d reached a ceiling with us?
