His going isn't just FPP related though, is it? Didn't someone say on here that he wanted to go? He was offered a new contract which he made clear he wasn't going to sign.

I thought the club might have been able to say a few more words of praise in its official statement, perhaps a bit of a thank you, and a few good wishes.

There is, on the OS.

Fucking FFP...

I wish him good luck though. Pleased he wont be playing against us...

One of our 8 games in the Champions League will be against them, you can bet on it.

Good luck Doug. Helped us through the Covid years and helped establish us back in the top flight, then into Europe, then into the Champions League. All while signing a new contract when everyone thought he was off.

Good luck Douglas, played well for the most part but I have to say, other than the first part of this season, I thought he was a bit too lacking in physicality for us, that said, not his game and he played in a role that really didn't suit his style.  Needs replacing with a similarly classed midfielder, not Barkley or Enzo to be fair.  Excited to see what Villa do.  Played better for Villa under Unai.

Good luck Dougie, but I just have this horrible feeling he'll be back over here within 2 years playing for Spurs, Chelsea or someone equally horrific.

There will probably be a follow up Tweet with highlights. I'm not referring to any of his hairstyles.

And here it is....

A player who has grown in Premier League status along with the club and who has come on leaps-and-bounds under Emery.

Whilst sad to see him go, I'd like to think that this departure has been long planned for.  Even if FFP wasn't a factor, there's often been paper talk about other clubs sniffing around.  It'll be interesting to see the first choice midfield line-up come August.

Good player for us and would rather he was staying, but his mind did seem to be elsewhere towards the end of the season and he clearly wasn’t playing well. Shame really that a player wants to go when we are in the best place we’ve been as a club for donkeys years.

Crazy. Genuinely strange that he'll never play for us again, just like that.

All the best Dougie.

I remember someone having a real go at me around January time whenever I'd post the rumours of Dougie to Arsenal or whoever, like I was doom posting or shitting my pants at the mere mention of a "bigger" club coming in for him. Not what I was doing, for the record, but I really didn't think he'd leave. Especially not after the second half of the season when we kept up with the rest of them and got that CL place. It's a weird one alright, feels both out of the blue and in hindsight something that's been coming for a while.

Still, wish him all the best. I hope we batter them in the CL when we inevitably draw them.

Good luck to him. He's been great. It feels so much better that he's going abroad than to an Arsenal etc.
Thanks for the memories

My thoughts too. I’d of hated seeing him in another shirt here.

You’ve been great Dougie, bloody ace. All the best.

A really good player who was sensational for us  at times. It's a shame he's gone, but I'm hopeful we won't feel it too much (and his drop off in standard at the back end of last season makes this all feel less painful).

5 years, of improvement in him, and in us. It's a good deal.

Yes, i also think based on the timing, if it had not have been Luiz it would have been someone else.
I think the club might also be ok with losing the girlfriend drama.

A good player and seemingly a nice lad. Sorry to see him go.
