It's not defensive midfield, which is what we need. Hence some people want Enzo, who plays there, rather than Barkley, who doesn't.

Does it have to be one or the other though? We lost Chambers, Donk, Tim, Doug and Kamara is out for months. We need depth for next season.

We are gaining Enzo, Mini Emi and, hopefully, Ramsey at some point.

That still doesn't cover the loss of depth in that area though..? Barkley will suffice and be considerably better than Chambers, Donk and Tim.

It's literally impossible to play a defensive midfielder AND Barkley AND not drop one of those more talented midfielders.

Any of them can play in any position better than Barkley. Who is shit.

We will end up letting Ramsey or Rogers go, and it'll be the new equivalent of fucking off Gary Cahill to make way for Zat Knight.

Ramsey can't play the Luiz role. Rogers can't play the Luiz role. Like, it's mad that you keep insisting they're the same.

I absolutely hate ‘in Unai we trust’, but you’d imagine he’s got a plan for Barkley. And his plans are generally good.

They literally can. I can't really argue it any more.

Barkley is nowhere near good enough.

Hopefully it involves selling programmes or making the tea and not taking up a position that could be filled by a much better midfielder.

Yep, won't argue it anymore, I literally don't understand what game you're watching re Luiz here.

With respect, all that is nonsense. The majority of people on here have said  Barkley played a deeper role last season and now your suggesting we're going to sell a player we only bought in January to accomodate him. If you don't rate him fine but why make stuff up to suit your argument?

Barkley will be more use to us this season than Tim would have been imo. The Tim sale covers the cost of signing Barkley.

I get the aprehension on Barkley, I do. I just think doing what he did last season, where he did, it looks like a man that's finally worked it out and is on a mission. He's always been extremely gifted, and it's finally come together.

Barkley is cover for Luiz. I assume we'll be replacing Luiz with a heftier spend later in the summer.

Kamara doesn't have an alternative, Luiz was a make do. The Argentine lad who plays for Juve fits the physical profile, but who knows. Tielemans is that continuity player who cab be 6, 8 or 10 too, but is much better in an advanced role where his passing is more devastating.

McGinn, Ramsey, Rogers, Emi are all players capable of playing wide or at 10 in our system. We then have two genuine wide players or wide forwards with Bailey and Diaby, but another would almost certainly help.

I hope you're all right. It just seems like when we signed Heskey under a (then) popular manager and everyone was performing mental gymnastics trying to convince themselves it was a good idea signing a player that literally nobody would have wanted to sign two months earlier.

One manager though was a man that got angry with James Milner for suggesting they don't train enough, and the other is Unai Emery.

It's like backing Terry the window clearner's view on election polling over John Curtice.

Sure, it's more similarity in fan reactions than manager I'm seeing. Was anybody on here suggesting Ross Barkley two months ago? If so, do they still post or were they virtually tarred and feathered for such a suggestion?
