We also don't know about his contract, we don't even know for sure how long it never mind what's in it. It's been suggested it's 2026 in some places, so if it is and he wants to leave now is the best time to let him. Is there a release clause. Maybe Man City have a sell on clause, some places say no, others say 20%. If it's the latter then player swaps again benefits us.

Whether it's cash or a player swap wouldn't make any difference. The total value of the deal is the total value of the deal and that's what any sell on fee would be based on. All a player exchange does is change how it's paid for.

Yep, same for FFP. Whether it's money or players, it's still the transfer of an asset of x value in the books.

Having a mooch online and came across this from a while ago which I thought was a touch QI. It's still better than baseball though where the majority of players have no say where they are traded to.

Quote
In 2017, Jordan Ayew and Neil Taylor swapped clubs, with Swansea City paying Villa about £5 million on top for the Ghana forward. Swansea were still a Premier League club at the time while Villa were down in the Championship, but Taylor welcomed a “fresh start”. Ask the Wales full-back how it all came about, though, and he’s completely in the dark.

“Honestly, I don’t know how it was negotiated, who made the first call to who and who wanted who first,” Taylor tells The Athletic. “I don’t know if (Steve) Bruce (Villa manager at the time) made an approach for me, or if Swansea said (to Villa), ‘Listen, we can’t afford that (for Ayew), pick a player’. You’d think as a player you’d be privy to that kind of information, but you’re not. It’s just a case that you half find out one club doesn’t want me and one does. That’s usually how football works.”

What does Iling do?

He's a left sided attacking mid.

Pacy, comfortable on the ball. Lots of potential.

Sounds good, like my kind of player.

Ah right, OK. Cheers both. I knew that's how it appeared for FFP but wasn't sure about the sell-on clause side. Should have known as it would be a piss easy get around.

If the two incomers are players that Monchi/Unai want and think that they can be developed whilst at the same time improving our overall squad strength AND we get some cash too, then I'm reasonably comfortable.

Iling-Junior is English. 21 in October. Quit Chelsea and was courted by PSG, Bayern, Dortmund and Juve - so he should be half decent.
Various t'interwebnet articles about Iling-Junior saying that Toon, Spuds and ManU are after him too.

Transfermarkt
McKennie 28m
Illing-Jnr  13m
Cash          20m
Total          61m

Dougie    70m

Guess we'll try and inflate the "values" of McKennie and Iling-Junior by a few £m as that would help us and Juve in terms of FFP in that it would increase the "amount" we get for Dougie and do the same for Juve in terms of their books.

The only cash involved would be the €20m - the rest is all paper accounting entries.

Quoting Transfermarkt for reference only in terms of comparative player values.

Flashscore has the values at:
Mckennie 24.8
SIJ 11.6
Cash 26.6
Luiz 67.5

IN EUROS. Who is doing the valuations? The Deal Or No Deal banker?

Ah, FFS.

I do trust Emery and all that.  But, (and I've shamelessly nicked this) Monchi sold Salah, Nainggolan, Alisson, Rüdiger, Emerson and Paredes at Roma for relatively cheap. It cost him his job.

I haven't studied his career in depth and I'm certain there's loads of brilliant signings and sales too.  But the truth is, I'm just gutted to lose Luiz.

I completely get the background, contract situation, FFP etc.

But, we've got lost of extremely good players but very few elite ones.  We've just (seemingly) sold the player I was hoping we'd be building our team around for the next 5 years.

Luiz out, Barkley in.
Kamara Inj. McKennie in as cover/cup games.
Iling Junior In

FFP PFS etc rules met.

Now, IF we got Gallagher as well, that would be a really great set of deals for our midfield.
