I like everyone else don’t know financially exactly where we are and what we may or may not need to do.
But Douglas Luiz and Boubacar Kamara on form playing together are as good a pair of midfield players in the Premier League. They were a big part of why we dominated Manchester City last December among many other teams during last season
To lose one would be a big setback and not easy to replace.

Yes, if Doug does go - which I fear he will - it’s a massive loss and very hard to replace.

Tielemans stepped into Luiz role and for a few games we looked infinitely better . Luiz isn't irreplaceable, none of them are and if we are in FFP shite let's trust the gaffer with the churn .

Nobody is irreplaceable and if they do go, I'm much more comfortable with them disappearing abroad.

We never looked "infinitely better". The best we played, by a mile, was when we had Kamara behind Luiz and pals. That was when we were being talked of not just as Champions League but as actual title contenders. We need a Kamara replacement/cover, not a massive downgrade for one of our star players. Bringing in Eirik Bakke Mark II instead of actual cash or a decent player would be madness.

The gap is between Kamara and the next cab in the rank, not luiz to tielemans (Barkley).

I’m hoping the Kamara alternative is the big money signing made after the 30 June, as no one linked to date is a DCM of similar quality.

No we didn't.

We looked superb as a team when Luiz was played in his correct position & he had Kamara behind doing the dirty work for at least the first half of the season.

And Luiz looked absolutely every bit world class for that period.

That was when Tielemans was okaying utter shite.

Tielemans looked better by the end of the season than he did when he first arrived & was playing at a decent enough level by the end of the season, albeit by the end of the season everybody looked absolutely fucked because of all the injuries & games played by the majority of the team over the course of the season.

But by the time we lost Kamara  &we had no dedicated CDM other than Iroegbunam, who wasn't given many chances (I think he is for the chopping block according Sawiris recent interview, along with many other youngsters), Luiz was forced to drop back into the position that we all know he isn't too comfortable with & his form naturally suffered.

I think you are confusing ability with form tbh.

Yup - agree.

I always wonder if Tim has a crush on Lehmann and is jealous of Doug

Our best performance - Arsenal away was without Luiz and Kamara . Arsenal were bang in form and full strength.
The C115y game was fantastic but they were missing the big players - Rodri KDB etc .

I don't give a shit about individual games.

Otherwise we are still wanking over the Barkley performance in the 7-2 v Liverpool.

I am looking at consistent performances.

And over the course of the season Tielemans got 3 goals & 7 assists.

Compared to 10 goals & 10 assists for Douglas Luiz.

Both had good parts to their season, both had shit.

Its only opinion that Douglas Luiz best was world class & Tielemans was only decent, but even if we give excuses to both players for their shit periods, it's an indisputable fact that Douglas Luiz had a stronger season overall.

Or his drop in form coincided exactly with Kamara getting injured and him having to take on a role that clearly isn’t his best. The ceiling, if he’s reached it, is what he did in the first half of the season. That is pretty special.
100% agree with Paul…that combo was special.  Others were very decent alongside Dougie but Dougie/Kamara was comparable with ANYTHING in this division

Yeah but Doug has been here from the start, didn't have to adapt, and takes the penalties.

And I'd say it's only the last 18months anyone would have Doug above Youri, career wise.

For me there were signs once he'd adapted that Tielemans might reach a higher level than Luiz with us.

Luiz probably played far more games than Tielemans .

I see "a few games" has now been reduced to one game. Even then, we only played really well for half of it. Not much of a pattern. Even the most basic analysis shows that, on average, we do far better with Luiz and Kamara on the team.
