Don't think McGinn and Diaby messing around at the edge of the box before his penalty helped much either. Quite a long delay there before he took it.

Keep fooling yourself. He really hasn't. Go back and read the post match comments. He's played in that deep position for the majority of his time at Villa. It's no excuse. He's been a 6 or 7 out of 10 when previously he'd been an 8,9 or 10.

I mean it’s as clear as day Kamara getting injured has meant he’s been moved back into a role that he has never really looked comfortable in, and his performance and impact on games has dropped. Throw in fatigue given he basically plays every minute when available, and the dip in performance levels and influence makes total sense.

The entire reason he’d gone up a level under Emery has been because he specifically wasn’t being asked to play the role of being the deepest lying, most defensive midfielder anymore.

Its obviously still on him to try and put decent shifts in from that position, but it’s not an inexplicable loss of form. And he’s still putting in 100%.

I did think that too… what was the point in them continuing the silliness, just pick a different spot to run in from, and let it die down.

He really isn't as good as some think . Elite players take games like this by the scruff of the neck . Luiz isn't that sort of player. Really missed Tielemans tonight .

As much as Tielemans has improved these last few months, on top of their game, Dougie doesn't need to break breath. He can be that good. Right now I'd prefer Tielemans. As least he looks like he cares.

Not for me . Tielemans is by far the classier player backed up by medals etc . I think we signed him to add competition to Luiz and it's done just that .

Tonight v Olympicao
Emery was giving him quite the talking to during the first half when there was a stoppage.
He was in his face, giving it to him, and actually manhandling him, making his points very animatedly to Luiz.
It was shown clearly on TNT Sports that Emery was not pleased and dissatisfied while giving out those verbal instructions; he was at one point physically grabbing Dougie!

Disagree, Vinnie. One looks completely knackered, the other has heat stroke from Copacabana Beach.

I can confirm that is not how you look when you have heat stroke from Copacabana Beach.

Kamara makes Luiz. Granted it does seem an odd coincidence that when hes shagging the lemon again he goes awol (dont blame him for being frankly worn out)

But Kamara is the huge miss. Plus only recent we looked better when it was just Mcginn and Tielemens...

There's always the exception. ;) I'm not blaming Dougie for drinking too many Caipirinhas and falling asleep on the beach.

Kamara makes Luiz.

Never thought about it, Vinnie, probably because his form started to drop before Kamara got injured.

Granted it does seem an odd coincidence that when hes shagging the lemon again he goes awol (dont blame him for being frankly worn out)

Agree on both points. Up until then we looked lost in central midfield. What Unai was expecting tonight from our two central midfielders I have no idea but they were stupidly outnumbered.

I've definitely had a few caipirinhas there but you don't fall asleep on Copacabana Beach. I recall being on the beach when a couple of young kids from a favela were running by me. They stopped, and one exclaimed to the other something to the effect of "Look, it's the crab from the Brahma ad!" and then ran off laughing (there was a popular beer ad at the time featuring a sunburnt crab).
