Pre Emery he was a 5/6 out of 10 performer.
Post Emery he has become a 7/8 out of 10 performer  with some  9+ Thrown in.
Recently he has regressed probably down to the disruption in our midfield.

I'm sorry, but that's absolute bollocks.

Agreed, he was 6-7/10 before, with the odd 8 or 9 performance. Since Emery came in he's mostly 7-8/10 but with the odd performance at 6 or 9-10.

Depends when pre Emery you're talking about. He was a 6/10 performer in his first season but was definitely a solid 7/10 in the 12 months before Emery. Under Emery he's been 8 or 9/10 most weeks, dipped a bit lately but then for some mad reason people are questioning if 'he's really that good anyway'.
I'd say we're 4th the league and he's been one of our best players so yes, he is that good.

I will admit that it took him a long time to get to that level and i for one didn't think he would. We saw odd purple patches here and there but a lot more meh than wow in his first few years. I seem to recall him being excellent when they came back after covid and for a short time at the start of the season after.

Can I remind you both that Douglas Luiz was voted fans and players player of the year last season
There isn't a player this season from midfield who will match that achievement and Villa team have been better season.

I don't think that is quite the killer argument you think it is. If it isn't matched this year it is because the whole team has played at another level. It tells us nothing useful about Luiz per se.

After being off it for a good few games, as well as his 2 game ban, he needs to get his mojo back now and for the last few games and drive us on.

He looked shagged against Chelsea and was taken off before he was sent off - this is the evidence of a tired player

He's just had the last two league games off, and hadn't played for 9 days before Chelsea.

Still played 48 games this season though and he's pushing on 4000minutes in total, that's a huge amount of playtime at the top level, with only Konsa and Martinez having played more in our squad (Watkins and McGinn are a little behind but I suspect all 5 will break 4000minutes by the end of the season).

Don't forget international minutes as well which probably puts McGinn at the top or joint with Martinez, and although Luiz has not played as many, he has travelled a fair distance to be in the squads.

Indeed, and worth remembering that a 42-43 game season has been normal for us for the last few years so for that to jump up to 56-57 games is a big increase for the entire squad and the load was always going to fall on the better players, who as you say are also regular internationals. No break this summer for a lot of them either.

Douglas Luiz has scored all his goals this season at Villa Park.
I think the officials will award a penalty and Douglas will score.
