Dwight Yorke back in April.

Quote
“Douglas Luiz is a player I have watched closely at Aston Villa and I’m not quite sure what his strengths are,” he said. “What does he actually do? He’s very steady in midfield but I don’t understand the hype from the summer when Arsenal nearly signed him. Luiz is not creative enough to sit in the midfield. He plays a crucial role at Villa, but you have to do more to warrant a big move. I don’t think he’s a top-four player, but he’s acceptable for Villa.”

Dwight why don’t I get interviewed for the Villa job Yorke?

Clearly he’s been liberated by our missing link Bouba, so some who didn’t watch us might not have realised - from what we saw with his attacking early doors - that he was being misused out of necessity .

It was great to hear Ollie in his MOTD2 interview talk about it all coming out of the midfield duo.

Too right he is Daz.  Our best outfield player in my opinion.

It would be really funny if he breaks the record Yorke set for scoring in consecutive home games with that quote in mind.

How good is Dougie he's just brilliant.

Last few weeks he has been incredible. In the 2nd half v Mostar it looked like everyone else had slowed down he was so ahead of the game.

Taking emotion out of it he could easily be a starter for most of the top European sides.

The Kamara & Luiz pairing is outstanding & it shouldn't be underestimated the impact that Kamara has had on Luiz's performances. He's cut out a lot of the sloppy casualness. Kamara gives Luiz the freedom to play.

This guy is on the verge of being world-class.
Dean Smith made the move and slowly developed him and he's a fantastic signing, and he's already proving his worth under Emery's tutelage. Emery has really made an impression I feel with Luiz as he's gone up another level since the restart has he not?

I have only read and seen brief highlights of the Liverpool matches (due to Christmas) I see that he set up the goal against Liverpool, and against Tottenham today I watched the match on screen and he started it all off to get the goal with a shot that Lloris fumbled before scoring an absolutely sublime midfielders goal.

The way he got into the box is something that is much needed, and we have to salute this guy because he's only going to get better.
Wonderful improving midfielder and I have fingers crossed he's not badly injured.

At the start of this very year seeing his performance against Spurs away victory .

I actually met him when he'd just signed for us. A mutual friend introduced us. I remember I said 'Come hither, Villa's hope. If secret powers suggest but truth to my divining thoughts, this pretty lad will prove our midfield's bliss. His looks are full of peaceful majesty, his head by nature framed to take a pen, his feet to nail a high press, and himself likely in time to bless a double-pivot.'

I’ve always rated Doug, but I reckon he’s developing into one of the best midfielders in the league.

Shows that just because you were a successful player, doesn't mean you know much about the game.

He's been brilliant so far this season.  He was sloppy a few times with the ball yesterday but him and Bouba ran the show.  I used to think what Yorke said about him, but recognise that Douglas has improved no end under Unai.  I look forward to watching him play now, turned into one of my favourite players and I was wrong about him.

It's astonishing that while people are wetting their pants about how Man City want to buy Paqueta and Real Madrid want Guimares and there's this other Brazilian guy who is far better than either of them just quietly getting on with being brilliant.
