Douglas Luiz - Confirmed confirmed

I like many was initially a critic as i was of the beleif he thought and played as if he was better than he actually was.

Now he has come of age he is a wonderfully gifted, patient and effective footballer - whether that is due to coaching (i assume it has helped immensely) or his playing partners the improvement in him is outstanding.

Would love a few more screamers from outside the box from him

I said a few months back as good as he was I wanted to see him dominating the midfield rather than cruising through games. Now, especially with his drives forward carrying the ball, he looks on another level. As somebody on here said a week or so back, Luiz seems to be everywhere and it's true. It's like he's taken the responsibility to own and control games, combine that with SJM and recent return to form of Ramsey, that's a great central midfield.

As Hookey said, a few more screamers would help, they're long overdue.

Last night I lost count of the number of times he was first onto the ball when it broke loose from either us or them, and as paul_e mentioned there were a few outstanding passes, not least the little scoop into Emi to set Watkins on his way.

Nearly got one last night, was some block by I think Faes to deflect it over. No way their Olsen esque keeper was saving it. Free another time in same spot when Bailey took the wrong option. More goals will come from Luiz.

Best CM to have played for us in years based on his current form. Plenty of scope to improve further too.

I have always liked him & always saw him as a good all round mid. Not amazing, but solid all round.

He never really excelled in any particular area of being a midfielder to me.

Since Emery has come in, I think of all the players who have improved, & all of them appear to have got better, Douglas Luiz is the one who has improved the most.

Watkins numbers make for headline news, but Luiz is one of the better players on the field playing consistently excellent week in week out & a big part of our current form.

I think one mistake Emery made was in taking Luiz off late on in the Arsenal capitulation. Pretty sure he's not done that since.

He is class example of fans shouldn't judge players too quickly, and there are more to a player than just the player - Emery has also shown us that.

Dougie is performing very admirably, and he's a contender for my player of the season award.  After his free kick goal that means he’s scored five goals this season, having previously scored a total of five goals in three Premier League seasons!
That statistic was made all by myself.
