Doug was just a glorified loan wasn't he?

No. If we stay up, he'll probably stay.

I would hope so, he's a player we could build around.  Not up to us though, unfortunately.

It's a pretty good loan deal then because they have to pay us an extra £10m to buy him back apparently.

It's alright for us, whilst being meaningless to them - they have bottomless wealth and have now had it confirmed in court that they do not need to abide by FFP rules.

I thought the deal was that we bought him outright and Citeh have first right of refusal when we come to sell; and that it is our call when we decide to sell.
Obviously, relegation will put pressure on us to sell.

It's described as a "buy-out clause" which would suggest that if Citeh meet the trigger price we wouldn't be able to refuse.

I can see them buying him back (if we go down) and then loaning him to a team in europe e.g. R.B Leipzig which they've done recently with Angelinho

I actually wonder whether we'd actually do that if we go down then he comes back here if we get straight back up.

I believe you're both right. If we decide to sell, City get first refusal at whatever we're selling him for. If we don't decide to sell, there is a price we HAVE to accept (but only from City).

He's improved this year, but I'm not sure he's at a level to play a regular part for City just yet.  Look at who he'd be competing with.  I think he'd be very lucky to make the same number of appearance Foden has this year (20-odd).

If we stay up, he'll definitely stay.  If we don't, he'll very likely go, either to City who'll loan him out, or someone on the continent.  Either way, his career certainly appears to be on an upward trajectory and he's show he can compete in the premier league, so wouldn't rule out a few suitors here either.

I love that he took the yellow card when he did as well, that showed how much he's matured over the season because that could've been dangerous.

Got a really good mentality, understands the game as it develops. Also worked his balls off which is good as we don't know if he'll still be here.

Think he'll be huge for us next season if we stay up. Certainly a player to build a midfield round.

If we stay up and he stays he'll get game time week in week out in the PL.  Hopefully that will appeal to him at his age.

I'm a little more reassured he will stay because of City having the European ban lifted. That means they can go for superstars rather than biding their time with a rebuild.

That said, they're about to buy Ake for their collection of crap defenders, and some of the players they played against Watford were terrible too. Luiz is probably ready for them already.

Last night he clattered an Arsenal player and showed he was up for business. He didn't do that in the early part of the season.

He's learning.
