I don't think he's shown he's good enough for a top 4 club yet. He may be in 2-3 years' time ...

That Mail story reads like your typical lazy journo join-the-dots punt anyway. City have buyback clause + Villa could go down = City buyback Luiz. There's obviously a grain of truth in City not wanting to sell him in the first place, but they have as much clue on City's intentions as we do.

Looking every bit a top PL player. He won’t be playing for us next year unless his work permit is a problem.

At the moment when he gets the ball I feel like I used to feel when grealish got it. He won’t let go of it cheaply and he’ll probably make something happen. He’s our best players by a mile on current form.

Luiz is only a bit older than Grealish was when we went down before. Time for him to establish himself as a Premier League superstar with Villa, I reckon.

If the worst comes to the worst, another £25 million won't hurt. We will be able to spend money like we did last time we were down there, but would be starting with a much better team, not the same 2016 squad of players that got fewer wins than a Saudi shoplifter in an arm wrestling championship.

And if there are FFP problems, then we just donate an airport to the EFL. Make problem go away, yes?

If we can find a way to keep him we will have by far the best player in the Championship next season. Jack will be gone. Douglas Luiz is precisely the type of player who you build around.

Not a chance he'll be with us next year. He's been our best player since lockdown and there'll be a queue of Premier League clubs after him.

He won't be in the championship next season. Made Andre Gomez look championship standard tonight and anyone else Everton had in midfield. Just a pity he only started playing since the restart. Always had the ability on the ball but throw in improved fitness, desire, commitment, cynicism and there is a hell of a player there.

I don't know if others will be willing to pay £25 million based on his recent performances. And I don't think we will sell him for less than that. I think he will still be at Villa or bought back by Man City if they can sort the work permit and think he's worth it.

We have been crying out for a dominating central midfielder all season.
Is it just a turnaround in form, fitness or has Smith finally worked out how to play him?

He's definitely improved, he had long periods of being off the pace pre-lockdown. He does appear to be better as the holding player though. McGinn coming back will have helped him too.
